It only lists firm orders.
In similar reason there will be a lot more than 20 321XLRs by the end of that period.

As you note Qantas is conducting another competition in which a B787 top-up will be one of the options.

QF's SYD-SFO flights now formally zero-ed out / deferred again until the end of March.
First flight available for booking from 27 March.

This tends to confirm that QF are probably expecting Boeing to deliver the first of the delayed 789s around February with it going into service by the end of March. Their results presentation inferred they believe they will have all 3 in the fleet by the end of the financial year.

There has been some chatter that QF are in the market for some wet-leased 787s to tide them over until both the new 789s are delivered and the remaining A380s are reactivated. This may give QF some crucial capacity over the busy summer period though it is unclear what hard product would be available on any wet-leased planes which could complicate scheduling. The only currently parked fleet of 787s not scheduled for reactivation would appear to be the former Norwegian 789s but these are not obvious fits given they do not have a Business Class cabin with their premium cabin being the equivalent of Premium Economy. They are also RR powered which may not be an issue in a wet-lease scenario.

What's stopping QF reactivating more 380s for the summer peak?

Not sure, but it seems to be taking a fair bit of time for each plane. Maybe they weren't particularly well stored. At the time, I think QF was thinking it would probably retire the entire fleet so maybe a few corners were cut.

It was announced in QFs results last week that all 10 would be back by the end of 2023. Weather all are refitted I don’t know?

I guess we can expect to hear which routes they will be on soonish then.

-OQA the next A380 to be reactivated and depart VCV in September.

As per all A380's -OQA will ferry VCV-LAX and under go maintenance.

OQA is repainted but not refurbished so will probably head to AUH once LAX work is done. I have to admit I was surprised Nancy wasn’t one of the A380s sent to the scrapper.

Lack of engineering manpower - a lot took voluntary redundancy and the current industrial action isn’t helping train up new engineers

Lack of cabin crew - a lot took VR or just plain changed careers over Covid.

Lack of flight crew - a lot took VR, and it takes time to retrain trainers to be able to re-qualify the pilots.

It looks to be 2nd and 3rd quarter 23 when most of the 380 fleet will be operational again.

Personally I ain’t surprised -OQA survived a visit to the scrap yard when you factor in “Nancy” has the least amount of cycles of the fleet of 12.

Given OQA's history, perhaps this could be a very well protected A380, perhaps even having a long life after her flying days are done.

I've been hearing chatter/rumors across the wider community on other forums that the the existing VARA A320s (alongside the all Y 73Gs) and the VAi registered 738s will all eventually come under the one VAA AOC.

Will be interesting to see how VA makes this work.

Lower cycles and it has many parts much newer than others thanks to all the work done.

If you haven't read it, this article goes into detail on the repairs and overall it added "less than 100kg" to the aircraft's weight.

https://australianaviation.com.au/2018/05/home-again-the-repairs-and-the-return-of-qantas-a380-vh%E2%80%91oqa-nancy-bird-walton/

Perhaps it'll end up being last in service as well as a result. We shall see, but I'm glad it is sticking around.

Prime candidate to be retired to Longreach in due course, to join the DC-3, Super Constellation, Boeing 707 and Boeing 747 there at the Qantas Founders Museum - https://qfom.com.au/

Any news on the postponed VA announcements? Have any further press conferences been released? I’m an optimist - but still hoping for a purple/ ruby red metallic VS style livery, with red engines to boot! I note the VS logo online is red, with white lettering

My understanding is that all of the A380's now coming out of VCV are having their heavy maintenance check done along with being refurbished etc in AUH. That's why it's taking literally months from when they fly out of storage to when they are able to re-enter the QF fleet. AUH looks to be only doing 2 at a time as well. So I'd expect, at most, another 1 or 2 A380's to be back in QF service this year and the rest to slowly re-join the fleet next year. (So Max of 6 or 7 QF A380's by year end the rest re-delivered over the 2023 as they come out of maintenance and refurb) Then they have the crewing issues on top of that.

I’m going off what they said at the results, though yes given how long it takes per aircraft, it’s probably 4-5 months from when reactivation at VCV gets underway, gear swing at LAX? Then flown to AUH for heavy maintenance and refitting.

The A321LR to operate its first international service with Jetstar next week, on a one-off basis for now.

A single AOC is pretty simple to make work, provided you don’t have a battle with the unions.

The duplicate costs, of multiple AOC’s out weigh the benefits.

If you look at NZ over the past 10 years, have ditched all there sub AOC’s. The 77W, 789s, A321/320s, ATRs and Q300s are now all on the main “Air New Zealand” AOC.

If you look back around 10 years ago, they had.
Air New Zealand - 777,767,744,733
Zeal 320 (was Freedom Air, before that) a320s
Mount Cook - ATR’s
Air Nelson - Q300s
Eagle Airways 1990s

Each of these AOC’s had to have there own chief pilot, head of engineering etc… to be the requirements of a AOC.
