Here's a rough mock up I did using the current colours and logo variant:

I think we need something a little more modern and more vibrant.

I remember attending their aircraft in the late 80s /early 90s.. the aircraft had a whole parrot along the fuselage. Cant remember if it was an airbus or 767.

Hey guys,
PNG has been on my bucket list basically since I was a teenager. Sadly I knocked back a couple of opportunities to go there with my grandfather 30 or so years ago as he had fought in WW2 on the Kokoda Trail and wanted to revisit the area to pay thanks again to the locals who saved his life.
I know a few people who have travelled there for the diving off the north coast of PNG plus a few who have gone there for government work. we also had family friends who were missionaries in the PNG highlands.
The one time I tried to book a holiday to PNG I was put off by a lack of accommodation in Port Moresby even though I wanted to travel around a fair bit of the country. I don't know if there still is a shortage of reasonable accommodation but it really turned me off booking the trip. The air fares were high but compatible with travelling Sydney-Broome which I've done a few times.
I love Air Niugini's current colours but agree that they could do more. I remember the old ex-TAA A300B4 with the huge bird of paradise down the side - what a precursor to some current trends it turned out to be! Certainly more colour along the fuselage and a larger bird motif could be done...
Take care,
Bunumuring

I have worked on projects in PNG for years, being a resident for approximately 12 months. Beautiful country and people, the steak is great, but......it is still a third world country. The infrastructure is very poor and travelling is hard going at the best of times. Don't expect the hotels to be that great out of Port Moresby. If you want to see a syn fish, than the reefs in the north of the country will be a must in your travels.

That was an A300 leased from T.A.A. in Australia. It was a stylised Bird Of Paradise.

I think that scheme looks truly wonderful and I’d love to see it on a new PX A330-300 and -200, A321XLR, and A220-200 and -100 fleet.

Having said that, I’d love to see the Kumul on the tail rendered in that glorious yellow and the yellow replaced with green with a cheat line of yellow separating it from the red.

Is there a reason why they went with used CEO's instead of new NEO's?

Seems like a bad move in the era of high fuel costs.

PX has yet to choose its 767-300 fleet replacement but the airline and country’s coffers are not hugely well off. The A330 ceo is being mooted as a likely replacement as it would be fit for purpose, available and affordable. The cabin fit-out of the existing FJ birds - two of which are rumoured to be coming available - are well suited to PX’s purposes.

FJ denied that they are looking at more A350s for now, which means the existing fleet isn’t going anywhere.

The A330CEO makes the most sense for PX I think, cheaper and they don’t need brand new.

And yet CEO André Viljoen confirmed to local media in May that plans are in place to bring on more A350 to replace the A330 fleet.

PX advertising for 330-200 engineers for POM. I don’t think they do any outsourced engineering work do they? Does POM receive any 330s that could be out sourced too? Although not what the PD states,

Hey smi0006,
A great catch by you: I guess this is probable confirmation of the A330-200 entering Air Niugini’s fleet.
… and Fiji Airways’ A330-200s are powered by RR Trent engines, which are specified in the ad. Of course this isn’t ‘proof’ of a deal as speculated upthread and there are other companies that could also be offering deals on this airframe/engine combo.
Interesting times!
Could we now see A32X family members replace the 737NGs?
Take care

Does QF still own a chunk of PX?

I know when PX was formed back in the early 1970s, ownership was QF/TN/AN and governments of PNG and Australia, but when/how did that change? One would assume it is now fully owned by the PNG Government?

According to wiki -
In 1976, the government bought out the Qantas and TAA holdings and in 1980 acquired the Ansett shares to make the airline wholly government owned.

Must have been a year after PNG independence from AU?

Another interesting investment often forgotten is that QF owns 49% of FJ I believe, they tried to sell a few years ago - but couldn’t agree on a price with the Fijian government.

FJ denied they were looking for more A350s, so no plan to reply any A330s for now. I’m sure there are a few RR powered A332s on the market.

VA’s parked 330’s are RR..
