In flight Ukulele lesson on WN LGB-HNL

Mon Sep 19, 2022 7:00 pm

Southwest Airlines partnered with Guitar Center to give every passenger on a LGB-HNL flight their own Ukulele, then a Guitar Center teacher gave an onboard group lesson to the passengers during the flight.

Kinda cool...

I’d definitely pay extra to be on a flight with no ukuleles.

In related news, investigators are looking into reports of a Ukulele instructor and 176 ukuleles being thrown out of a Southwest flight over the Pacific Ocean...

Meh, not what a serious business should be doing.
I find some of WN's FAs and acts to be very childish and not professional of an airline. My opinion, feel free to differ but respect it.

Most likely Guitar Center buying a promo - got to imagine no money was spent by WN on this (well, ok, maybe some extra fuel money for the weight of 170 Ukuleles - but heck probably got Guitar Center to pay for that too.

On one hand interesting promo I guess, but on the other hand if you are in a mood of wanting a bit of quiet on a five hour flight then you're gonna be unhappy.....

Absolutely not cool trapping people in a situation like this where they could not exit. Though fun for most, things like this need to be voluntary.

There are people with special needs that might not be able to handle the sound. Business people trying to work. People going to funerals or something that aren't in the mood. People who need to get sleep before an important event on arrival. Etc.

Hawaiian's inter island flights all have a ukelele on board in case someone wants to play.

I rate the piano accordian above the ukulele, perhaps mostly having had to suffer through ukulele groups at my kids' primary schools

But my thinking isukulele specific - my eldest son's school music tour (75 kids) sang on their Emirates flight SYD-DXB (I expect in early cruise), and I once played trombone in a jazz group on QF BNE-SYD (admittedly on a promo flight with plenty of QF paid hospitality)

Look on the bright side….at least it wasn’t a recorder lesson. One passenger hits the brown note and the lavs are inop for the duration of the flight!

A lot of folks laugh at the accordion, but I really enjoy good jazz accordion. It can be amazing, and you soon forget Lawrence Welk.

But, try as I may, I just can't take the ukulele seriously. (Note to SJWs, please spare me your cries of racism.)

Yuk! Trapped in a 737 for anything over 2 hours is bad enough. Being forced to hear any music lessons not by choice-horrible.

Being trapped on a metal tube surrounded by dozens of ukuleles, sounds horrendous and completely incosiderate on the part of Southwest.

Passengers should be able to be left alone a dbmind their own business. This goes against that premise entirely.

Bless y'all's hearts LOL. You're flying to Hawaii and you complain about Ukulele lessons. You have to pay a lot of money to do that on the islands and here you get it for free.

If you don't like it put some headphones in.

Tough crowd!

I think it was a fun little stunt that I bet most on that flight enjoyed. But you can't please everyone...

I’m willing to bet overall the passengers who were actually there loved it. This place has historically been full of Debbie Downers.

Unless things have changed, the ukulele was on the Ohana ATRs, not the 717s.

You are correct. I remember Cranky Flyer doing a thing on it.

Holy cow, lighten up a little around here. Why is everyone so freaking gloomy. You are flying WN, which is known for their "antics", to on of the top vacation destinations in the world. I would bet that 99.9% of that flight enjoyed it and those who didn't probably have noise cancelling headphones to start.
