Samer Al Majali, Royal Jordanian CEO, has announced that RJ will order upto 20 A320NEO to replace the current 13 A320s in the fleet and for expansion purposes.

The airline is currently in discussions with Boeing for additional B787s and is evaluating both the B787-9 and B787-10. The new aircraft will be featuring onboard wifi and lie flat business class seats.

Royal Jordanian Airlines is aiming to grow its network and fleet within the next few years.

Awesome news! I've personally enjoyed many trips with RJ, many in transit and their price usually reflects what you get. AMM Airport is great for transit and staff has always been friendly. Good to see them expanding!

I hate to ask this, however I wonder if there’s any possibility of a new livery with these new jets? Perhaps a modern twist to what they have now?

There days modern twist is reducing the number of colours and adding more white, Anet will not approve.

Interesting- where do they send these 321? Maybe it’s 320 family?

I do like RJ, and whilst I like their livery a slight brand refresh would be nice - a new uniform is desperately needed.

RJ will probably have the flexibilty to switch part of their order to A321s, depending on how demand on certain routes. I'd be highly surprised of they didn't. Perhaps even (X)LR's.

The 787-10 in RJ livery would be gorgeous, but I would be very surprised if they went for it. It would make them the only airline to operate the -8 and -10 but not the -9. That would very much be against trend

According to the articlef the reasons RJ decided for the A320neo were "that it considerably reduces training and other costs" (of introducing a totally new aircraft type, my summary). With RJ already operating the E190, I'd say the E2-19x is favorite. If they favored the A220 I guess it would have been part of the Airbus deal?

The two A321s are JY-AYT and JY-AYV - RJ sends them to a plethora of destinations: anywhere from AQJ / TLV (flight time of 30 minutes) to CDG / LHR / MAD (flight time of 5 hours). If interested, here are their recent histories:

Judging by the fact on the reasoning behind the A320Neo order, I would say that RJ would opt for the E95-E2 for the regional fleet.

As far as the incremental order for four B787s are concerned, I don’t foresee the need to upgrade to the B781 as it’s capacity would be too much on year round USA services plus AMM-ORD (13:05 winter block) may have payload issues. Currently RJs 7 B788s seat 270 pax in a dual class layout (24J/270Y) so if they maintain the same premium cabin size it would mean 318 seats on board the B789 ie +18% capacity which is ideal.

With regards to the A321Neo, I would assume that the order has a built in option to up-gauge for a small fee provided an advance notice period of 18 months is given as per regular terms / conditions.

Yes there are few routes requiring the A321Neo incremental capacity at RJ in the long run such as JED DXB KWI LHR CDG but the airline does not need A321-XLRs ! Maximum, the airline needs 4 A321Neos out of this 20 A320Neo family order size.

RJ and Embraer has conducted a special flight operated by the E195-E2 during its visit to Amman.

Maybe now we have a hint regarding the regional aircraft order?

Will it be bought using the state's money or leased?

Hey guys,
I ageee that RJ's current livery is a classic however I also have always felt it was a bit too complicated. A Qantas / AirFrance style 'refresh' of the classic colours and symbols would be great - but please NO Eurowhite scheme nor wavy lines!
Happy that they are sensibly re-equipping and like others upthread, look forward to the, growing their Dreamliner fleet.

Yea, as predicted, the Embraers got the nod. Follows on from the Jordanians’ logic for selecting the neos and additional Dreamliners.
