Finnar has started its strategic route to Doha from 3 cities:
Copenhagen
Stockholm
and very soon Helsinki
all using its latest refurbished A330-300. There will be cost sharing with QR for both pax and cargo. All three FINNAIR planes will be at DOH simultaneously!
Good to see Finnair expanding and recovering from its avoidance of Russian airspace, and I think its a win-win situation with QR since it has grounded many A350 and desparely needs to expand with wide bodies. Also, timing is perfect just weeks before the best World Cup 2022 about to start!

More interesting was the routing on Friday which took AY1985 directly over Israel east bound!
Especially as Qatar remains seriously aligned and embedded to the Tehran axis of influence when it comes to relations with Israel

Wasn’t there a fourth city mentioned by AY at a press conference back then, from which AY will also serve DOH ? IIRC they didn’t unveil this particular city yet … so any guesses ? OSL maybe ?

I was near gate C37 in CPH waiting for another flight, while the launch of Finnair from CPH to DOH took place. I didn't mind the crowd, I didn't mind the noise, I didn't mind the publicity photographer..... what I really did mind was that the very evident cake was not offered around to anybody who did not work at CPH airport !

The afternoon departure seems to be handed over to AY, but the morning departure is still flown by QR from ARN and CPH.

Can’t say I’m a huge fan of QR, AAB and some of their business practices and strategies.
However I will say huge credit AY they seem very nimble and agile and creative, always looking for unique opportunities such as this to respond to a crisis, diversify their revenue and add some resilience in.

True they have always been agile and creative, like the wet lease deal (A350) they have with Eurowings Discover (Lufthansa). Started in S22 with three A350s, this winter Finnair will fly FRA-MCO/PHL for their old rival.
