I don't know how to post pics here, but basically, the canopy is the soft, accordion piece of the jetbridge at the top that extends/retracts against the plane once the jet bridge is in place to keep rain/other weather off passengers during boarding/deplaning.

I’d say about 20-30 other gates weren’t using them, so I don’t think it was an operational error. -Would be pretty bad for DFW if 20-30 canopy’s were inoperative lol. All the AA mainline aircraft were using them.
