More detail about the retrofit here:

https://www.flightglobal.com/airlines/e ... 44.article

67 A380s and 53 77Ws to receive these upgrades.

Intriguing to me in that there was a lot of talk at one time suggesting that this level of re-fit was "too expensive" on an A380

Considering Airbus hasn’t taken the bait to produce a new updated A380, and with the next biggest aircraft being the 779 which doesn’t help the situation by being years behind schedule, I don’t think EK have much choice but to retain and refit their A380s, just to keep up with the ever growing demand beyond the “initial” lifespan.

At this stage its clear we better give up waiting for EK to have a half-decent business class anytime soon, as they have basically retained that crappy design (with different colors…) in this refurb…

Who even thinks that the hot drink deposit is relevant at this point? Has the be stupidest idea to ever be implemented on a business class seat…

With Emirates fleet needs it looks like they might use all available flight hours and cycles on their A380 fleet. Is Airbus done with all the structural life, life cycle extension and service life research now that the prototypes move on to fuel cell test work?

Does anyone have a list of pre-pandemic A380 services that are yet to be reinstated to A380, and what (if any) 2023 reinstatements are due ?

Pretty pessimistic about BOS. I guess demand doesn’t warrant it anymore.

Thankfully BHX will still have 1 x 777 service coming in. Personally I prefer what we have at the moment (2 x 777 flights). As a freight forwarder this suits better for capacity than having the A380 back in.

Ah well it was good while it lasted.

I'm assuming the rumoured EDI service will in effect be the old 2nd flight of the day. And most likely do the cargo lifting as well.

The tie up with UA doesn't help.

Also, it's possible EY considers AUH-BOS with their enhanced B6 partnership.

There is certainly demand for more going east, it’s just a case of who. Turkish have been upgrading several of their flights to A330’s recently as PIA funnel their passengers through IST. Qatar are rumoured to be returning and there are suggestions Saudi are interested (both have applied for slots).

EUW is fully refitted with premium economy now. It'll be returning to service shortly.

EDQ returned after spending two months in TLS for wing fixes.

EDY was removed from service and sent to TLS for wing fixes.

In total, there are 90/119 (76%) operational.

That’s quite a sobering thought. Imagine another airline having 29 A380’s hanging around doing nothing for so long. Are they the oldest aircraft, whereby some might not make it back into service?

Any new info on the retrofit program? It seems to be way behind schedule, so far only one aircraft has been confirmed and cities like Melbourne which was planned for 1st Feb still without premium economy.

Wondering if we’ll see EK shift the majority of their NYC services over to EWR with the new UA partnership and reduce JFK to 1x JFK-DXB non-stop & 1x JFK-MXP-DXB?

Given QR has downgauged BOS to the A359 and EK is only 1x 77W now is the time for EY to jump into BOS with the 789 to take advantage of the enhanced B6 partnership.

Have you seen the loads to/from JFK?! If anything they’d expand in EWR alongside JFK. They’d be foolish to touch JFK.

No, I am not allowed to do so. But let’s say that I’ve been offloaded as staff more times than accepted on JFK, both ways. No payload restrictions.

Understood. Was really curious how BOS is doing overall? Hoping to see the return of the A380 but wasn’t sure if loads warranted it.

In the U.S. load data is public information and can’t be withheld. It’s published in T100 stats which are reported to DOT.

Nigeria hopes that flights from Dubai-based Emirates will resume soon. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari called for the airline's return last week and reportedly directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to make more foreign currency available to Emirates and other international airlines.

Wonder if someone could help me understand EKs fleet strategy - are the 350s and 798 replacing the 77W with a loss of capacity? And 77X will replace the 380s - with DWC seemingly parked where will the DXB slots come from? Yet alone the likes of London or Tokyo airports etc.
