Of course, all these posts about PDX and HND and ICN are nothing more than conjecture. Plus, oddly, a bit of wishful thinking by some.

A lot of A.net rumored new routes are just someone’s wish-list. However, I don’t think it’s wishful thinking to believe an airline will start a route they have announced and are offering for sale.

2023 predictions from PDX:
-DL will finally start their already announced ICN and HND flights. Might not be in March what is currently scheduled but will start sometime in 2023. And maybe PDX-LAS/BOS/HNL/ANC.
-AS to add at least one destination. Thinking it might be IAH or PHL.
-If summer 2023 PDX-Europe has strong demand to all FRA, AMS, KEF, LHR flights, then CDG will be announced at some point late 2023.
-additional Mexico flights once Mexico returns to its category 1 Safety rating. Thinking MLM or MEX.
-AA to MIA A321neo.

Is there any reason we continuously see 2x daily BOS, or MCO or ORD during peak season rather than launching (or relaunching) a IAH or PHL on AS?

Perhaps more likely to turn a profit by adding frequency to an already proven city vs launching a new route and take a gamble?

Actually I was referring to wishful thinking of some that the routes don’t start.

There are a few that view PDX with envy I don’t doubt. PDX is on the verge of getting two destinations in Asia, and already has 4 nonstops to the European continent, with a potential 5th on the way.

I hope AS flushes out their network this year with a few adds (PHL IAH ATL DAL) and frequency boosts (TPA FLL CUN). Been disappointed with their network out of PDX the past couple years

Similarly, I hope WN makes a couple adds (BNA AUS, maybe SLC) and increases capacity across the board

I think all we might see from the US3 is AA to PHL MIA and DL to BOS, but i’m not sure if that will happen

International adds have already been discussed so I won’t add anything there

Have a great year everyone

If AS adds anything this year, my bet is on BWI and PHL. Both were successful summer seasonal flights before the pandemic, so I think we'll see those come back before any new destinations. Other than that, maybe ATL, BNA or IAH could be successful as well. Operating more than just one daily flight to DEN would be nice as well.

That being said, I think PDX-DAL is gong to be permanently cut, and we'll get a 3rd flight to DFW (with two in the offseason instead of one).

DL to BOS is only a matter of time. B6 is pretty much non-existent in PDX, and if DL adds this it would be a great competitive move against them.

I don't see WN adding anything new. Maybe ONT? SAN (daily)? SLC?

AA to MIA doesn't seem likely. I think they would have added that awhile ago if they really wanted to. If anyone gets to MIA in 2023, it'll be AS adding it for the '23 holiday schedule.

Alaska needs to do more than 1x daily to DEN and the schedules to SLC have been awful lately. If Southwest were to restart SLC, I bet you Alaska makes some increases. It would be nice to have another option to SLC

Looks like JetBlue has just re-added their PDX-BOS flights. 1x daily starts May 5. A220-300 operating. Redeye.

PDX-JFK on JetBlue starts March 26. 1x daily A320 operating. Redeye.

Is Delta PDX-LHR never coming back in the near future due to BA? If so, is there a realistic chance of PDX-CDG this year? Also, any chance of Dallas non-stop from them from PDX?

PDX-LHR is not scheduled to return on DL and likely won’t given BA’s presence in the market. PDX-CDG is unlikely imo. PDX-DFW on DL? Not a chance. DL doesn’t even fly to DFW from its SEA hub. I think people sometimes forget that PDX is just a spoke in the DL network. It’s not a hub or even a focus city. It’s an important market for them, sure. But DL is keen on doing everything it can to keep margins up at its SEA hub up the road. I imagine they are very careful to ensure that none of their PDX flights detract from that.

I would also agree that DL will move ahead with the HND and ICN flights - would be a huge disappointment if they don't take off. I feel like it is at the best interest of PoP to get these flights off the ground as well as they will be the only nonstop flights to Asia from the city. (I wonder if DL says they are unable to serve the route, would the PoP step in with some sort of incentive?)

Also, is the current PDX-AMS flight departure/arrival here to stay? Or are there plans to put get it back to its original time slot? Or is AMS still that big of a mess?

Does anyone know when numbers will come out for December 2022? I wonder if the winter storm made a big dent on passengers coming through PDX.

I can understand the lack of DFW flight. But, since they gave up the LHR route to BA, at least they can try CDG for further East, Asia connections.

Little chance unless things quickly and very dramatically change. Airlift from PDX is still way down from 2019. Something like 20% fewer seats available currently.

Seeing PDX-DAL loaded into google flights 3x daily on AS starting May 18th. Seems off. With AA and AS DFW flights, that's 10x a day to Dallas

AS's own flight skeds show 3x PDX-DAL & 2 PDX-DFW flights so I can confirm the AS count:

392 PDX 7:00 am DFW 12:40 pm 0 737-900 (Winglets) Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat

Pigs will fly before AS actually has 3x daily on PDX- DAL.

My prediction for 2023 is that PDX-DAL gets permanently cut and PDX-DFW goes from 2 to 3 daily.

And the pigs will fly twice before they use the 737-900 on the route. I used to work the DAL flight at QX on the 175. I think it was once daily and then they cut it.

Here's the thing though, AC'. I don't know the answer but IF these flights were recently added to AS's advanced 5/18/23 sked, and they remain there now, we are only about 4 months out and a major cut (like eliminating an entire route with a 3-flight schedule) seems quite unlikely. I don't keep track of PDX's schedules month-after-month like I do with SAN's, so I don't know how long this DAL/DFW sked has looked this way but the fact that it's still there just a little over 4 months out is important.

It's possible that AS would allow people to book seats on 3 flights between PDX and DAL less than 5 months out but I highly doubt it. Also, these flights are, as of now, first appearing on the May 18 schedule -- they are not on the April (preceding) one. The key is when these DAL flights appeared first on the May schedule.

There could certainly still be some adjustments to a May schedule in January or even February but to totally axe the route this close in would surprise me.

The FR24 on the Delta 767 showed it taxied over to the ANG ramp but doesn't necessarily mean it's connected

ORANG had some F-15s down at SJU recently, so I’m guessing they’re returning from that deployment

Pigs will fly before AS actually has 3x daily on PDX- DAL.

My prediction for 2023 is that PDX-DAL gets permanently cut and PDX-DFW goes from 2 to 3 daily.

There could certainly still be some adjustments to a May schedule in January or even February but to totally axe the route this close in would surprise me.

bb

These PDX-DAL flights have always been in the placeholder schedule. When they recently updated their schedule past May 18, this route was one of the few that AS had not changed. If I had to guess, I believe that AS may just not have a solid plan of what to do with these flights at the moment. Next time they further adjust their May 18 schedule, I bet they'll be gone.

This one was supposed to be a repo flight, but turned live. Local ops had no clue...

Interesting.. Live as in one-off bookable?

I don't believe it was bookable. My guess is that it was a repositioning flight, but since NK1232 appears to be normally used as a regular flight number, the flight tracking websites like flightaware still displayed the dep/arr gates.

It was a bookable flight. 60 or so pax came off.

Left this morning for NGU, FWIW.

Additionally, there's a Dornier 328 operated by Advanced Air/Taos Air at PDX right now. It arrived from GEG last night. My assumption was that it had something to do with University of Portland basketball but I honestly have no idea.

That looks to be the USF women's basketball team heading to Portland after their Gonzaga game. It flew OAK to GEG on Wednesday.

I think that PDX-CDG on AF would work well. AF said they are looking into a new west coast route, PDX would be a good addition. Delta would also do well if they flew it, doesn't really matter what airline does it considering they have a JV agreement.

I could definitely see DL doing a seasonal PDX-CDG route, like they do with DEN-CDG. But this would likely be ran by DL instead of AF as DL in Portland already handles international ops, and also so that AF wouldn't need to hire reps in Portland.

Source? I see no official announcement from the airline and there has been speculation that pricing and fare class availability suggests that this flight will not actually launch as scheduled. Also, where would this aircraft rotate to after arriving in PDX?

If true finally some good news for PDX!
This flight should be able to capture good amount of PDX-ICN-Asia traffic

I don’t know if there is an official announcement but the PDX-ICN flights are bookable on Delt’s website. Interestingly, the flight is showing 5x per week but originally was 3x. Also, the fares are down-still higher than SEA but at least closer than when I last checked. PDX-HND fares are still double or quadruple so they’re something awry when compared to SEA. $5k more for economy and $7k more for first is not going to sell when you can take. 30 minute hop up to SEA.

On another note, Salem city council approved $2.4m to update and the SLE passenger terminal to accommodate air service this summer. The as of yet unnamed airline flies full sized jets and planning LA basin and LAS flights with PHX and SFO by end of year……if they get the terminal work done-mostly TSA compliance issues. Sounds like Breeze or possibly Avelo. My guess is Breeze since they do not any presence in Oregon

ICN flights have been bookable since the original announcement was made in 2021 when they launched the route. Honestly am not sure what Delta’s strategy is with this is as HND is launch or lose the slot, although it is interesting because at this point with just over 2 months until initial flights one could assume the DL should have relatively firm schedules.

I saw it on ExpertFlyer, but Delta does sell the flight. It's $4,000 round trip so I don't know if they're actually going to fly it.

If it's Breeze, I hope Salem City Council knows who they're dealing with. Breeze has had a bad record of announcing routes and either cancelling them before they start or only flying them sporadically before the route is cancelled, not to mention general operational issues.

my guess is allegiant air. Sounds like it might be similar to Allegiant's Eugene operations.

PDX-HND nonstop is around $6800 in coach. :faint:

I think DL is purposely limiting sales on this route in hopes that they get another extension to push out the start date. They are probably waiting for an answer from the Japanese government.

What was the origins of Northwest flying PDX-AMS in the first place? Wonder what the market for PDX-AMS is and the reason why it exists. Northwest Airlines had several long haul flights that didn't fly from their main hubs.

When did Northwest Airlines launch PDX-NRT? That was launched and operated before the merger with Delta.
