Does anyone remember when this lounge was put in, as far as I know United hasn’t served and long haul routes in 20+ years if not more so I was curious what prompted them to put in the lounge in CE.
On the topic of lounges, does anyone know if there will be any lounge development space or anything like that in the new terminal space. I was thinking about how there are 4 international carriers and 2 of them don’t have lounge access for J passengers so I was curious if there are any rumors of proposals for some sort of lounge like a Priority Pass or AMEX sponsored club.
My understanding, and others can correct me and/or elaborate further, is that the current United Club used to be the Red Carpet Club when the E concourse first opened in May (?) 1992. Presumably it has been redone/updated since then to keep current. That said, I wouldn't hold my breath for a Polaris Lounge at PDX!
Regarding lounges in general at PDX, there was some discussion pre-Covid that Delta was going to update and expand its SkyClub that overlooks Concourse D. It looks more like a dingy hotel lobby now, but I suspect those plans are on hold until DL's international plans at PDX become clearer. If HND and ICN do launch as planned, then demand for an expanded SkyClub will warrant it. Otherwise, it will likely stay as-is until Concourse D is expanded or renovated, etc. Concourse D would be the oldest section of PDX at that point once the main terminal project is completed and opened in 2025.
