An assembly line but no engines, no final design and no firm orders (still doubtful about AA "undisclosed non-refundable deposit").

Isn't it a little bit premature?

XB-1 didn't even fly yet.

They announced a new engine partnership in early December.

'Course, whether they get it, put together a full sized demonstrator, fly, get certification, firm their orders, and deliver them..... is anyone's guess.

Am I the only one that thought the 3 engine design looks cooler than the new one?

Adopting the design to four engines might at least indicate that they are now, finally, serious about the engine they want to use. Which is a good sign. Not sure wether starting from scratch is?

Definitely not alone.

I do look at the new design and wonder how on earth this thing would be heavy enough to justify a 6-truck landing gear system though.

Even if they're just trying to spread the weight in a manner that limits Concorde's infamous tire-burst issues, it still seems a rather odd way to go about it.

It's not the weight it's the speed on the runway.

Maybe they think they can build an engineless airframe, and engine manufacturers will be impressed and develop an engine for it ? :d
