Let me first wish all of you a happy new year 2023 and safe travels wherever you may fly to.
I decided to start the new year by reviewing the year 2022 in aviation:
I think that the most important aviation news for the year 2022 is Boeing rolling out its last 747, thus about to close the end of an era that shaped up the industry of civil aviation: the opening of the widebody era back in 1970. The very final 747, an -8F ln 1574, will be delivered to Atlas Air soon.
Other aviation topics that highlighted the year 2022 are, as far as I can remember:
-United places a massive order at Boeing for 100 787s and 100 737MAX.
-Airbus A300 maiden flight: 50-year anniversary
-The Airbus A380 returns to the skies with most airlines around the world, as air travel comes back up again, getting closer to 2019 levels.
-Southwest cancels hundreds of flights because of huge snowstorm in the United States.
-Boeing 767: 40 years in airline service.
-American and Mesa Air divorce.
-Cargolux orders B777-8Fs.
-British Airways at JFK moves from T7 to T8 to join One World partner American Airlines.
-JetBlue announces Paris will become second destination in Europe, after London.
-Spirit and JetBlue in talks to merge.
This is my forecast for 2023:
-As I mention above, Boeing delivers very last 747 to Atlas Air.
-Kitty Hawk Wright Brothers: 120-year anniversary.
-Deregulation in the US airline industry: 45 years.
-Finnair celebrates 100th anniversary, becoming the third airline to celebrate 100 years of operations after KLM and Qantas.
-Boeing 727 maiden flight: 60-year anniversary.
-100 years of commercial aviation in Belgium: Sabena would have turned 100 if it still existed.
-JetBlue starts flying to Paris.
-Concorde retirement: 20-year anniversary.
-Airbus A340: 30 years in airline service.
-Boeing 757: 40 years in airline service.
