Favorite FBO

What is all of yours favorite FBO?

Mine is Atlantic Aero at GSO. It is really big. It has a charter business, a feeder freight service with 24 C208s, extensive modifications personell, liscenses, etc, a lot of hangars, flight school, avionics, aircraft management, etc.

FBO stands for Fixed Base Operator.

These are the establishments you see at airports that sell fuel, pilot supplies, avionics, charts and flight training.

My 3 favorite FBO's have to be
1. Signature FSO @ DCA - always have really cool jets sitting out front. Everytime I go
up there are always G5's and Challengers and big and expensive things like that
2. Lafayette Aero @ LFT - they have a little flight school where I am currently taking lessons at. They also have a Citation 3 that is always out there. It apparently belongs to a bunch of oil people
3. Piedmont Aviation @ ROA - they have pretty big hangars and they currently have a Citation 2, that's also where my dad used to keep our plane at
Well I have to go now,
Camille

Thanks for the explanation, Aviator_ua. But now that I know, I have to
say I can't get very worked up about it! Sorry, but I can't! But it is
a good opportunity to tell N4KHgirl that I was one of those who had a
bit of a go at the Citation earlier - I just can't resist. I confess I
don't know much about the Citation except that it's one of the nicest
looking biz jets around. There's one that visits Prestwick from time
to time. Belongs to Digital (DEC), I think. There, I feel better now.

It's all in the eye of the beholder of course but I like it. There's
only a road and a golf course between it and the coast and if you do
any circuits to the south you'll be over the sea (only just). There's
very little heavy traffic but quite a bit of GA activity. I don't get
down there as often as I used to so I don't know if the British
Aerospace Flying School is still operating. If it is, it can get quite
busy with light singles and twins. There's also a Royal Navy station
flying Sea King helicopters. They do search and rescue for the west
coast and Northern Ireland.

The larger traffic comprises mainly Ryanair 737-200s and wide bodied
cargo. FedEx are one of the most frequent visitors. They almost built
a European hub at Prestwick a few years ago but their profits took a
bit of a dip and they scrapped the idea. You may also see Cargolux,
Air France, Lufthansa, Atlas and Polar Air 747s there (but not all at
once!).

You've probably already seen the charts but runway 13/31 is used
almost exclusively - and the 'PW' beacon is right next to where my
dad's brand spanking new boat is SO BE CAREFUL!!

The most variable element at Prestwick is the weather - It's not quite
in the same league as California but at least you won't get any fog.

Anyway, have fun and I hope you get good weather (the 3rd week in
July, usually!)
