How shabby it looked and those long, long unassisted walks with no travelator or just brief stretches to assist the aged. Toilets not particularly clean or functioning properly. As usual, the taxi queue was slow to clear, despite plenty of vehicles in the pound waiting. Why do they not call taxis to the number of spaces when they can see clients arriving, preferring one or two at a time.

This is in contrast to other airports where I quite enjoy arriving early to eat and/or get some work done before the flight. The core part of the building is from another era - low ceilings, cramped gate areas (especially the octagonal 200 gates), a lack of jet bridges, crowded F&B outlets and a general feeling of wear and tear. It's ironic that the nicest part by far (the old C gates) was demolished to make way for T2.

I think it’s worth remembering that T1 is primarily 1960s / 1970s infrastructure that has been expanded in a very piecemeal fashion over the space of 40+ years which brings inevitable limitations in terms of flow and layout.
The terminal handled circa. 18m passengers in 2019 which is more than the entire traffic of airports like LTN, EDI, and BHX. All things considered, it serves its purpose reasonably well despite being in need of some TLC. I can think of countless airports I would rank below it, including many in the UK.
I find the 300 gates to be particularly user-friendly. When I fly LH, I always appreciate the short walk to/from the gate. There are few large airports that offer such a quick exit and you can be from plane to taxi / bus in the space of 7-8 mins.

Yes I would agree. It’s not difficult to get through but I’d never call it easy on the eye. It has however gotten a little worn and grubby and could do with some investment from the DAA. The only structural limitation that I really have an issue with is the lack of gates with jet bridges leading to the use of that awful temporary thing in T2. Overall though I’d never describe DUB as unpleasant to fly out of by any stretch.

It’s improved recently, all the new livery A333s had been corrected last year but G-EILA came back from winter maintenance with a white inboard cowling, not very noticeable at least.
On the narrowbody fleet, almost every single A320ceo featured some form of mixed cowling. A few in the new livery have been matched up again but worth looking out for winglets now, EI-EDS and EI-EIM both have grey replacements!

Would not hesitate to use them on longer haul routes, as the IFE looks decent and the seats at the moment are quite comfortable. However on a full flight that could be a different story.
The rest of the trip LHR - ATH on Ba, ATH-SIN-PER on Scoot.... ironically the shortest leg has the most comfortable aircraft!
Will be back in Ireland 2025 or later so will be interesting to see what aviation developments arise.
Take care folks!

Noise complaints at Dublin Airport.
Who knew that the A32Xs of Aer LIngus and 737-8s of Ryanair could be so noisy because they are the majority of what is going in and out of DUB. The widebodies to North America leave during the morning when a faint noise from a distant plane is drowned out by vehicular comings and goings and construction work.
AS the number of complaints is far in excess of the number of complainants I would suggest that some of the complainants have fragile nerves or submitting complaints vexatiously.

Absolutely EVERYONE knew that Ongar was on the flight path. Air Traffic Control weren't trying to hide those flights from prospective purchasers of property in Ongar.
Anyone flying out of Dublin would have seen Blanch below them as they flew out on their trips.
There can be no excuses.
Now there are more flights but the flights are quieter than they used to be.

I see EIR also launched their own catering unit today. Whole operation seems to be going from strength to strength which is great to see.
They must surely be taking in more ATR’s?

Is EMA the first Belfast destination not served from Dublin?

It's back to where it was pre Covid. It's friendly, works functionally, but it's never going to win any beauty contests. The 33x gates are still a pain, the toilets are hit and miss, and the car parks are robbery, but that's nothing new.

I agree but what’s there to say it can’t do better? Especially on the toilets and general cleanliness front, I feel like that’s an easy area to improve. There’s no need to simply accept what we have and not encourage improvement and further development!

No and maybe wrong but I don't see it coming back in paper form unless I missed something. Certainly none on this mornings 154 to LHR .
On another note I got the breakfast this morning and they have added black pudding .

Thanks - that's a shame. Most of the major European airlines still publish them, IIRC. It doesn't even seem to be in digital form, as per the website.
Also - seemingly no more in-flight duty free being offered - is that true? The website's link to the boutique magazine simply links you to the Bia menu.
Looks like a good meal you had there - speaking of which, is there any plan to re-introduce the ability to upgrade your meal on trans-Atlantic flights?
Such a shame that all these pandemic moves are being carried over into the 'new normal'/post-Covid era. But I understand the cost implications ...

A shame as it was always one of the better inflight magazines.
I think brining back physical on board menus is more important, most passengers still don’t know it’s online and the crew end up trying to list off what they have available. Even when passengers do find it online, it’s an out of date version, as seen on the app.

Judging by the bizarre sealing of seatback pockets that seems to be going on on the short haul fleet I doubt anything in paper form is coming back. I wish they’d take this opportunity to do pre order meals but it is EI we are talking about, leading in innovation and customer service as always.
