Emirates unveils first new livery in 24 years

Thu Mar 16, 2023 2:31 pm

Emirates has a new livery.
https://www.emirates.com/media-centre/e ... its-fleet/

Personally, I think the new tail sleeker, but it's a bit garish and F1-like. I'm also not sure whether I like the enlarged titles or not. The red winglets are nice, though.

Thoughts?

Not bad IMO.
Many will not even notice it though.
Let's see the real thing now.

Ben from OMAAT made a good point in that it's a little bit of an Aeroflot ripoff. There's nothing wrong with it, but if it's your first update in a generation, maybe put a little more effort into it.

I don’t hate it. I like that it’s just modest refresh rather than a drastic change.

I’m not sure if the titles are bigger or it’s just an illusion with the illustration of a 777-300 compared to an A380. Even compared to pictures of an A380 it doesn’t look too much bigger.

I like the motif. Modern and simple. I wonder if they could’ve added just a little bit more paint though?

The titles are definitely bigger. Compare how much further back they stretch across the fuselage compared to the old ones (S ends 2 windows before lower 3rd exit+ gap on new…on old it ends about 8 windows before that exit). A new titles are pushed a little closer to nose too!

It does look like they made the Arabic titles a bit more compact vs old though, but that could be an illusion from bigger English titles.

More dimensional on the tail. Less "flat" Yes, more evoltionary.

Not bad! I was expecting something as criminally awful as the American Airlines excuse-for-a-scheme, but this appears to be just a "tweak" to something that already works.

A nice refresh to the current livery instead of a radical re-design. Following in the footsteps of AS, UA, AZ and others that did tweaks rather than a complete change.

To say it's a new livery is like saying BA got a new livery by adding the Fly To Serve crest on the side. This is merely a livery update or 'refresh'. Fine as it is, but I agree the majority of travellers won't be looking and saying "Woo, new livery !"

I don't like the flutter on the tail. It makes it look like the rudder is misplaced from another aircraft.

It’s snazzy. But I agree it’s a bit F1 like. I almost feel like it would’ve worked as an F1 special scheme considering all the advertising Emirates does for the F1.

Very subtle. Its ok, but not more. Was it needed? There was nothing wrong with the tail. If I would have done a refresh, I would have changed the old-fashioned titles. Make them red, and leave gold for the Arabic version.

With all these wavy stripes be sure every aircraft will look slightly different unless you have a very strict quality inspector which, I admit, EK seems to have as you hardly see any leeway given to its painters. Think of BA, where the tail flag has so many variations between every single plane.

It reminded me of Aeroflot as well. Having said that, I don't hate it. Aeroflot - and even the Delta-flot - schemes are OK, in my opinion.

I wonder what they'll put on the underside of the foldable wingtip on the 777X... that will be cool to see what airlines do to brand that area.

Definitely photoshopped...download the first two images in high res and zoom in. They took the pics and super-imposed them on a MSFS background. It is obvious if you've ever played MSFS.

Titles on the A380 are definitely quite a bit larger. On the current livery they are mostly bounded between the two decks. On this refreshed one, they extend below the lower row of windows and go a decent amount further back as well. I wonder if the titles on the 777 and upcoming A350s and 787s will get larger as well.

Here is the video of the roll out of the first A380 to sport the new livery. I personally like it. They didn't deviate from their ironic livery.

I like it! I also like it is not a radical change. I am kind of conservative regarding marking changes such as those made by UAL for example.

They’ve captured the movement of the flag in the air (which is nice, and appropriate) but what is with the lines/ridges on the flag? To help detail the perception of movement perhaps? I think unnecessary and makes it look a little out of the step with the otherwise very 2D livery.

Overall, good though, incremental fresheners are positive but why not lift the dimension of the titles at the same time?

I like the refresh. The removal of the website address is a good idea as it’s now a bit of an ‘old fashioned’ thing to do and in my mind anyway something you associate with the low cost end of the market. Using the freed up space to increase the font size on the main titles is a good move.

I like the tweaks to the tail fin and wingtips.

There's already an A380 painted in the new livery that's flying to MAN tomorrow. Seems odd that they'd send out photoshopped pic when they could just take a pic of the plane?

The tail and larger font size will take some time to get used to.. the winglets look great and refreshing.
Interesting to see the gradual return of 3D or complex tail art, there was a time when "flat" artwork was the trend.

On the same level as the Air France livery update, am sure it'll look fine when I see it for real. A nice evolution IMHO.

OT to be sure, but I won't pass up a rare chance to comment what a stunning aircraft the 727 is. Just beautiful.

A nice refresh except for the tail.

I’m not a fan of flag-inspired tails — AA, BA, SU, LY, etc.

LX is an exception.

No they didn't - in the article it states that the original livery was created by Negus & Negus, but subsequent iterations were done by Emirates' in-house design team.

Evolutionary, not revolutionary, and changed just enough to be different from the old version. As several others have noted, a very F1-esque look to the tail.

And I'm with PSAatSAN4Ever, anything is better than that awful American Airlines scheme!

Not sure if you don't understand what I am saying or if you don't WANT to understand. The images of the airplane are real...but the background of the first two is decidedly not. Not do as I said...download and enlarge...it is 100% obvious. They photoshopped the real pics of the airplane onto a MSFS background. The video you linked to does not invalidate this at all. Simply proves there is an already painted aircraft which I never doubted.

Today I've seen a photo real picture of the newly painted aircraft and another one where the same aircraft has been cut out and placed on a CGI backdrop depicting an airport of some sort.
