Registration Number Location

i noticd that American airliners dont place their registration numbers under the wings like other airliners such as emirates do. is there is a reason for that?

The FAA doesn't require it, so US airlines see no need to do it.

I noticed this on UA 744's, a pain in the neck to say the least when I am watching 05 departures, even when arriving on 23 it's hard to get the rego!

In Canada, if the reg on the side of the fuselage is big enough, it is not required on the wings, results in a cost and time saving in overhaul.

Wow, another politically minded response from Hkgspotter1. Man you gotta think of better things to do with your time, instead of petty cheap shots at the US and for example Taiwan.

The registration number is strategically placed on the aircraft such that it is impossible to read it from inside of the concourse by the gate.

Or so it seems to me  Big thumbs up .

Mls515. That's why you try to look for the fleet number on the nose gear doors. This info plus a copy of JP will tell you which aircraft it is.

The only rule in the US is that if the aircraft flies across a border, the registration must be 12 inches in height. Since all airlines want to be able to fly trans-border routes, thay all have 12 inch lettering.
The day you stop learning is the day you should die.

I really appreciate that post you made C172Akula, it's exactly the way I feel. It makes me feel better that there are real good people up there in Canada, once I get older, I definitely have to check it out! You just earned your self a spot on my respected users list!

Take Care,
