Italy Soccer Team Flies Alitalia To Japan Tonight

The Italian soccer team will be flying to Japan tonight for the start of their 2002 world cup experience. An Alitalia MD-11 operating as flight AZ 8525 will depart Rome Fiumicino airport at 20.30 and arrive tommorow at Sendai Airport at 15.40. Good Luck Italy!

Hopefully the fact that the Azzurri are forced to fly Alitalia whereas their opponents fly on decent airlines will mean a competitive advantage for the other teams  Big grin Big grin

The German Team will be flying tomorrow at 2.05pm from FRA on a special flight (LH740) with a 744. The plane makes a stop at KMI (Miyazaki, Japan) on its way to KIX. The German soccer Team will go off the plane at KMI.

Polish team will fly by govermants TU-154M "Republic of Poland" probably tomorrow, I thoght that they will fly by LOTs 767.

I read on this forum yesterday that the belgian team will take (or has already taken) All Nippon Airways (probably with a stopover at FRA) to Japan.

Well, probably EVERY soccer team is flying directly from their capital or so to Japan or South-Korea, except for the Belgian team. AFIK, they are the only ones that are not flying directly from BRU. I think this is a real shame. Why didn't the KBVB (soccer association) at least charter a 747, 777 or A340 or whatever?

Noooo, instead of flying Brussels-Tokyo or Osaka or something like that, they are first going to take the train (probably Thalys) to Paris - Charles De Gaulle. From there on, they will take the aircraft (don't know which airline).

You have to admit it, this not even half as impressive as departing from BRU, isn't it? What a pitty...

Whoops: they are not travelling by train to CGD, they are will be travelling by BUS to CDG. sorry guys, my mistake. So they'll probably 'depart' from BRU, but not with an aircraft to Japan, but with a bus to France...

About the Belgian soccer team:

They will gather at the Sodehotel around noon (12h). There they will have lunch. At around 13h30, they will leave Belgium by bus and head for Paris Charles De Gaulle.

At Charles De Gaulle, they will leave at 20h00 for Tokyo. So, I guess they will fly All Nippon Airways flight NH206 which is scheduled for 20h00 (STD) and departs from terminal 1. The aircraft is an ANA Boeing 747-400.

It is shame that polish team flies gov. TU-154 not LOT 767. On the other hand why would you need such big plane like???

I'm sure there are plenty of teams not chartering their own plane. I bet the Senegalese (sp?) or Cameroonian teams do not have their own flights. Nor does Slovenia. I doubt we'll see Ecuador or Paraguay flying on their own private jets either. Don't feel bad Belgium, you'll get there and do fine.

Alitalia seems to be very busy in these days.
Yesterday night the charter for the Soccer Team and this morning again a charter to take the Pope to Baku.
An Airbus 321 left Rome this morning at 08:58 and it was expected to land in Baku at 16:00 local time.
Good luck to the Pope for his trip to Baku and then to Sofia.
