Your Last Trip On Ansett Australia.....

Mon Jun 03, 2002 6:53 pm

My last AN trip was on 25/8/2001 onboard AN 887 from SYD to HKG. And I travelled on VH-ANB.

The service was great.

How about you?

Mine was from CNS to BNE in January 1999, aboard VH-CZD. I even took a photo of the aircraft.

My final trip was on Monday the 4th of March 2002 onboard AN091 SYD-MEL, the final ever revenue Sydney-Melbourne service flown by Ansett Australia.

It was onboard VH-HYN, the newest A320-211 operated by Ansett. A sad day.

Mine was on the 28th of June 2001, I'll do a report hahaha, my first trip report {nearly 12 months late!}

From: Townsville TSV YBTL
To: Brisbane BNE YBBN
Departure Time: 0600
Departure Gate: 1
Arrival Time: 0740
Arrival Gate: 38
Aircraft: Boeing B737-300
Aircraft Registration: VH-CZD
Seat: 1B

Departure from Townsville was to the west, heading out over the Garbutt industrial area. Shortly after takeoff we were served a drink of some kind, of no defineable taste, but it was pink. Breakfast was either cereal or a frittata, and I opted for the latter. Served on a plate with a tablecloth covering the fold out tray {oh the elegance! LOL} there was tomato etc, and toast was distributed frequently. The weather was smooth, and about 20 minutes after takeoff we were above unbroken smooth clouds for about 40 minutes of the flight. I was assigned seat 1B, however the window seat 1A next to me was not occupied so I took that seat, for a better view, after asking the flight attendant of course! Approach and the landing was made over the Pacific Ocean, after crossing the North Brisbane coast {the flight must have overflown land more than water} and heading out to the Pacific at about 0730. Disembarkation was at Gate 38, next to the common user concourse, and baggage collection was at the baggage carousel closest to the public telephones, sorry I don't know the number. It was an extremely enjoyable flight, and I am content knowing it was my final Ansett flight.

Mine was on 01/02/02, supposedly the startup date for Tesna's failed Ansett.
AN330 ADL-MEL and return later that evening (sorry, forgotten the Flight No, lets call it AN3xx). The return flight was almost 100% full. I am glad my last Ansett flight was full of pax and a subsequently very happy crew. It was also the first (and last!) time I experienced the Golden Wing Lounge.

Then during the pre olympic firesale... went to BNE on RME I think, and back on EWM, had a jumpseat landing.

Miss them !

Mine was on 26Feb on VH-HYI (i think not too sure) BNE-SYD.

Actually I flew Ansett on 11Sep (BNE-SYD RMK, SYD-BNE BZL, both J Class), 1st day they had the BNE-SYD route going after grounding (BNE-SYD return), 1Feb (BNE-SYD), 9Feb SYD-BNE and then 26Feb BNE-SYD...(and many times before that...)

excellent staff, great service (even with just water), actually a lot of the times the F/as (as I've mentioned with my earlier posts) "smuggled" food/ snacks/ chocolates/ biscuits onboard for the pax!!!

Those were the days...

I'm about to go on Kendell SYD-CBR-MEL on 10Jul on their Saab340s!

I have been trying to find my old boarding cards to work this one out.

Brisbane-Sydney 14 May 2001
Boeing 747-400. As i had operated to BNE from SIN i was still in uniform and asked to jump the Ansett jumbo from Osaka that was at the gate next door. The usual Ansett friendliness and helpfullness got me onboard. Seated in Economy but taken to Business by the IFD? so chatted and had breakfast.

Returned Sydney-Brisbane same day
Boeing 767. Again travelling in uniform as its easier the IFD? at the door changed my seat to Business and then came and chatted for the flight. As usual Ansett friendliness was the best.

25 May MEL-SYD
Major delays at MEL but got away at 0610 on AN 10.
Aircraft type?
Fab service and really helpful groundcrew.

26 May SYD-MEL
AN43 1710
Flight full but last seat at rear near galley. Crew asking hundreds of questions as travelling in uniform back to MEL to operate to SIN next day. The fantastic FA gave me a lift to my hotel and we now email one another constantly. Yes she has a job with Virgin but longs for her AN days again. DONT WE ALL!!!!!!!

SADLY MISSED BY MANY IN THE INDUSTRY

It was BNE-SYD on an Airbus 320 connecting to a LAX flight on Air NZ. Great flight although two days before I got an opportunity to change the schedule to fly from Brisbane Intl on a Boeing 744 to SYD instead. I passed on it, however, because it left too early (at least for my brother who I was traveling with) but I've been kicking myself ever since that I didn't take it.

Unfortunately, Im in a tremendous rush. If anyone wants to hear exactly what happened prior to there last flight, during there last flight and post there last flight. Say so, and I'll give an indepth report on it.

I got interviewed on ACA aswell, but still havent seen the report or the footage.

Anyway, March 4 AN 152 PER-SYD, If you wanna hear about it, just say so.

My one and only trip on Ansett Australia was in March 1997

ADL-MEL:CZV (737-300)
MEL-GOLD COAST: RMH (767-200)
GOLD COAST-SYD: RML (767-200)
SYD-ADL: HYL (A320)

The good thing about AN was the diversity of a/c they operated. On one trip you could find yourself on 3-4 different a/c types!

Flight: AN212
Date: 2/03/2002
Time: 7:45AM
Seat: 1G
From/To: SYD/BNE
A/C Rego: VH-HYC
A/C Type: A320
Golden Wing: Yes

I have promised many of my friends that I would do a trip report of my last AN flights ever. Unfortunately I could not bring myself to type it out, perhaps in the future. The service was typical of AN, perfect. I had bought a large amount of boxed chocolates and personally hand written thankyou cards to hand out to the many staff througout the journey. My crew to BNE were on their last leg and a favourite FA was celebrating 30 years of flying for AN, the same as me. The ensuing emotions at BNE as I waited for everyone to leave the aircraft so I could take photo's will never leave me. I will never forget the end of my beloved airline and it's staff who made flying her a joy to all. Their tenacity in trying to help save the airline and to keep showing that AN smile right up to the end is remarkable for any corporations employees. There was a large amount of BNE crew on this flight so the photo's I took were fantastic, if anyone wants to see some of them I can email the scanned ones to you. I took so many photo's with so many different cameras we were there for some time. When finally I handed over the bag of chocolates and cards and left with my friend to claim our luggage it was a good 45 minutes later. I'll never forget the emotion of seeing my lonely bag on the carousel in BNE. And suddenly hearing a sob behind me as an FA came up to me in tears to thank me for such a small token of my gratification. I burst into tears myself.

Flight: AN212
Date: 3/03/2002
Time: 5:50PM
Seat: 1G
From/To: BNE/SYD
A/C Rego: VH-HYC
A/C Type: A320
Golden Wing: Yes

My absolute last flight. I repeated the process of handing out chocolates and thank you cards to the many staff. It was devastating to be on the last flight ever for myself. I remember thinking to myself that "this is your last flight with AN" and I was suitably shaken. My last ever AN A320 flight was in full swing and I just couldn't bring myself to any sense of reason or enjoyment. Even the usual excitement when I hear the CF6's spool up was simply a faint buzzing sound. When we landed in SYD a teary FA thanked the passengers and a resounding cheer and much clapping was done by the many pax. I was devastated. I asked the head FA if she wouldn't mind gathering the crew together so I could take photo's before we left the A/C. It was with a shaking hand I did this and I was so upset I left the remaining card/chocolates with the FA to distribute. I quickly left the a/c and went to the baggage carousel where I knew I would never seen an AN tag on my bag again. It was devastating.

Long live the wonderful memories of what I would consider the worlds greatest airline. And to all the Ansett staff who made my 30 years (since a baby) of flying AN the best, I will always remember the fantastic service that you guys gave me.
