Ireland Fly Home From World Cup On Klm?

Wed Jun 19, 2002 2:30 am

Why are the Irish team coming back from the worldcup on a klm 747 and not on an aer linges aircraft? Dose it have something to do with the pilots strike with that airline. Holland might not have been there but there national carrier played a part lol. only kidden to all the dutch fans out there.

It is all about the money! KLM must have been cheaper. But who knows.

Yes. The goalkeeper said that it was a comfortable flight with good seats and was 11 hours. Sky News said it was chartered.

I saw the name of the plane. It is shown below:

Sorry BMI330 but Holland is still playing a major roll in the worldcup.
The biggest suc6 right now is the Guus Hiddink, beating Italy with South Korea.

KLM flies them for cost price because they where the ounces who got Holland out of the World cup. And Ireland has a close band with Holland. There will never be fights if the play a game.

What route did they take? I saw the pictures of the players climbing down the stairs of the 747 at Dublin airport.

Not only Ireland used KLM. Also the the soccer team from Ecuador flew KLM. Moreover, Aer Lingus doesn't fly to Japan and not everybody can afford to charter an A330 (or a FR B737-800) for a couple of days.

BTW didn't the Irish team left for Japan via AMS (flying EI on DUB-AMS?) on just an ordinary scheduled flight?

How did Mexico's team get to the World Cup? I know Brasil got there in style, Varig gave them their own custom fitted 767-300.

Well if [email protected] saw them coming down the stairs of a 747, it must have been KL because EI dont have any 747's. It would have been cool if they had of came via AMS! I missed them coming back to Dubling because I was flying back to AMS a day earlier but it would have been cool to go to Schiphol to see them!!! (i would have bought a cheap ticket just to get to the Air side!)

Well done lads!!!

They flew direct from Seoul on a Klm 747. They left seoul at 12.40(local time) and arrived back in Dublin at 16.55. Am I right in saying that an A330 wouldnt have the range to fly that route anyway?

The US team probably took a flight from the west coast United States to Japan or Korea, that sounds the most logical option for me. Anyone know for sure.
