Does anyonw know if there are any flights between amjor metropolitan airports that have close proximity to each other? If yes, what A/C? Are they regular schedule, or repositioning?

I do remember reading an article in a magazine about an airline (now defunct) that flew a real exotic aircraft (I can't remember which one it was) between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. The whole point of the article was, that it was the last scheduled route of this type of plane, and he wanted to fly it, etc.

Hi- i know a while ago TWA flew FLL to MIA. It was flown by a DC-9. im not sure if they still do though. They might have discontinued it.
I know that US Airways Express flies a BWI to DCA flight. Thats a pretty close flight as well.

I know Delta used to (maybe still does??) fly MIA-FLL as a tail end / positioning flight using a variety of equipment including B757 etc.

Yes....it has been done by many carriers. Eastern, Air Florida, Delta, TWA, Piedmont, American Eagle have at one time or another flow MIA-FLL. As for JFK-EWR I am not sure. Houston Hobby to Houston Intercontinental was once served by Continental using DC9's. They had Houston Proud Express written on them.

Back in June I was at LGA. I looked at the Arrivals board and it had a United flight from JFK to LGA. Listed a flight # and times, too. But, after a little investigation, I found out that it didn't exist. I took a picture anyway, just for kicks.

Atlantic Coast (UA Express) has flights from BWI to Dulles using J31s.

UAL repositions aircraft between SFO, OAK, and SJC all the time.

Delta operates two daily Boeing 757s between TPA-FLL, and then they continue on from TPA to LAX.
Southwest operates many daily flights (737 of course) between TPA-FLL
American Airlines will introduce three daily 727 flights between Tampa and Miami.
This flights aren't all that short (about 45 minutes flying time), but to be operated by such big planes is impressive.

A Few Corrections....
As of today (9/30/99), Delta nor TWA flew the FLL-MIA route.
American Eagle/United Express does fly the SNA-LAX route, on EMB-120 aircraft.
USAirways Express (Piedmont Airlines) flies the Dash 8 on the BWI-DCA route, and USAirways flies 733s, 734s, and 757s on the BWI-PHL route.
There are no Crosstown New York flights, but it is amzing (to me) that airlines actually fly these routes, when you can drive!!!
