To be on the same plane twice is not a rare thing.
Just matters on what routes you fly and what airline.
If you are flying with a big airline like UA or AA or DL, the chances are small. But on a small/medium european carrier you will often fly with the same plane.
I remember that i had about 12 flights with austrian airlines A310-324 OE-LAC, and about 4 with OE-LAB. (austrian airlines operated only 4 A310).
And I have been on OE-LAM (A330-200) a couple of times. If you are often travelling with a small airline (like I do with Austrian), it doesn´t need to long till you have been on all aircraft of the fleet more than once.
I have been on all long haul aircraft of the Austrian Airlines Fleet more than once, and often it was the same plane on both legs of a round trip.

LOT Polish Airlines and it`s subsidiary company- Eurolot have about 60 aircraft in total. Even though I`m not a frequent flyer it happened to me to fly three times on the same aircraft (I wasn`t happy about that as my dream is to fly on every single plane of LOT/Eurolot`s fleet)  Wink/being sarcastic

I've been on the same UA 767 twice, nose # 6659, I don't know the registration, but the first time it was IAD-SFO, the second time three months later ORD-DEN. So its not so rare even on large airlines.

Back in 1990, I flew BA Heathrow-Vancouver on G-AWNE (B747-100) and three weeks later back Vancouver-Heathrow also on G-AWNE. This was the only real coincidence.

In 1995, I flew AZ Stuttgart-Mailand on EI-CLD (ATR72) and the next week back to Stuttgart also on EI-CLD. This was not such a big coincidence, because AZ had only three ATR72s, one was based somewhere in Naples or Catania (not sure), two were based at Linate. So chances were 50:50 to fly on the same aircraft twice.

Two years ago, I flew Stuttgart-Basel in the morning on HB-AKL (Crossair Saab340) and in the evening back to Stuttgart also on HB-AKL. No coincidence at all, as Crossair used to have one aircraft "based" at Stuttgart.

Last year I flew Ryanair Hahn-Prestwick on EI-CKP (B737-200) and three days later back to Hahn also on EI-CKP. Not such a big coincidence, Ryanair had about four 732s based at Prestwick.

Two months ago, I flew Ryanair Hahn-Shannon on EI-CSV (B737-800) and the next day back to Hahn also on EI-CSV. Ryanair has three 738s based at HHN, so this was not such a big coincidence either.

That's about it. You see, it's not so unusual to fly on the same aircraft twice, especially when you count a return flight on the same route just a few days later.

My first jetBlue flight was with N504JB (JFK-BUF) (Shades of Blue) and my most 3rd recent flight (FLL-JFK) was on N504JB again. Then, on my most recent return from FLL, you guessed it, it was N405JB AGAIN!

I suppose it is not so uncommon to find this on smaller airlines, though.

In April this year I flew on AF from CDG to VIE and four days later back, on both flights I had the same plane (F-GRHN an A 319).

Had the same experience on a flight from Stuttgart to Frankfurt on a Lufthansa A321-100 back in 1997 I think. Both trips were on D-AIRP.

Thats nothing rare.

I´d flew OE-LAM ( Austrian Airlines A 330-200 ) about 10 times on VIE-JFK and VIE-ORD.

Or also OE-LBS ( Austrian Airlines A 320-200 ) a couple of times on eurpoe flights.

I think its nothing special if you get the same plane a few times when you´d fly often.

Every r/t from EWR-LHR on VS I have flown in the last four years (about 6) I have been on the same B744 G-VHOT "Tubular Belle"

However, on my last trip I was treated to a ride on G-VIBE "The Spirit of New York." The aircraft seemed to be allocated to the VS1/VS2 flights day in and day out for the months of December and January. Glad to have ridden a nice RR powered 747 Classic before they're all gone.

Well I may fly a small airline a lot so it may not matter but I've been on EI-SHN well over a dozen times, EI-JFK at least 6, EI-CRK at least 6 - all A330s.

It's not really an uncommon thing....particularly with airlines who use the same aircraft on a route.....for example to do JFK-DUB-JFK you will fly on the same plane twice 90% of the time. Fly LAX-DUB-LAX it'll be 50% because of duration.....if you're in the US.....one plane my fly HPN-ORD-DFW-LAS and back a few times ever before getting to HPN again....it' possible but not unlikely.....in fact I think it's better because sometimes because you learn the seating layout. Sure AA operate a 777 on JFK-LHR and JFK-CDG and JFK-NRT. But I can tell you right now you could have a different configuration on all three. 24H on LHR could be 28H on CDG and 25H on NRT but yet be in the same place like up against the lav wall.

It happened to me quite a few times.

Last fall, I flew LHR-CDG-LHR on a BA 757. I did not check the reg, but it was definitely the same plane (or they have the same stiches no the same seats on every 757 they have  Wink/being sarcastic )

Also, those last months, I flew LYS-FCO a few times (5 return trips), and I've been on F-GRJD at least five or six times

I-ATRN of Az express some seven years ago, then a lot of AZ MD82s. I was almost sure it couldn't happen with AZ 82s, since they have nearly 90 of them in fleet, but it happened a lot of times. Maybe because all those flights were to or from Rome FCO...

In April I flew on a Ryanair B737/200 on EDI-DUB, then two days later on the same plane on DUB-CRL.
After three days I saw again the same plane in CRL.

Read my Langkawi-KL-Singapore trip report, I was on the same plane for all the sectors... nothing scary about that!

Note: No, I was not in transit.

On jetBlue, this is a very common occurance.

I've flown on Bluebird twice.

What's weird is when you sit in the same row twice in one trip on the same plane...

By the way, Bluebird is the oldest in jetBlue's young fleet, and both looks and sounds older than the others for some reason (up front, it's very loud on takeoff for some reason).

I guess if an airline is small or only has a limited amount of a certain
aircraft, then its fairly easy to fly on the same aircraft more than once.
But when you have a huge Intercontinental fleet, its a bit harder,
I have flown 2 different BA B744 more than once, G-BNLA, G-BNLC
but the trick was, I flew them from LAX not from LHR and it was
a couple of years apart.
Limited edition paint schemes are special too. Ive flown AA's retro
B757 from LAX to FLL and from MIA to SJU.
Now here is the ultimate challenge. Has anyone ever flown the
same aircraft but with two different operators???
Ive flown several different B727's first with Western, then with Delta,
and some PeoplExpress then on Continental

I flew N723PA, LHR-JFK (and back, same AC), then more than a decade later as Tower's N6106 from JFK-TLV (also the same AC back). I was blown away at the time.

Hi Wn700,

Now thats what Im talking about! Im curious, was the aircraft interior
in bad shape when you flew it on Tower? Some of those Ex-PA 747s
were pretty beat up by the time they left.

Personally...I've had it happen to me on DL in the past a lot. I would take an MD-88 from OKC to ATL and would always ride the same one on a ATL to TOL route. Of course it doesn't happen anymore, since TOL-ATL is operated by the CRJ-700s, but it was nice when the flight from OKC was running behind due to ATL's congestion slowing everything down. It was a shame I couldn't just stay on the plane.  Big grin

In 1972 I flew LHR-NBO-JNB on a BOAC 747 G-AWNI & on the return trip JNB-NBO-FCO-LHR (Yes they stopped at Nairobi & Rome in those days) it was the same aircraft. Then in 1984 I flew on a TWA 747 LAX-LHR on N17125 which was ex G-AWNI.
Unfortunately it was written off at JFK a few years later whilst operating for Tower Air.
