Routes The Remaining NW DC10(30) Will Run?

Thu Jul 18, 2002 6:55 am

After the -40's are retired, which routes will our -30's be running? Inter-continental?

Nope, the -30's will remain on their present Trans-Atlantic routes until the A330's swap them out one-for-one from 2003-2006. The only routes the -30's will take over from the -40's is HNL flying.

The DC10-30s that remain will do the Hawaii services, and an occassional domestic run (say between hubs) where lots of seats are needed. And, before we get into a discussion about NW's "old" DC10s, NW has several DC10s that are only about 15 years old.

Er, inter-continental and trans-atlantic are the same (between continents).

Will any of the A330's be serving Seattle on any routes?

I wouldn't be surprised if the NW DC-10-30ER SEA-AMS becomes an A330, once the new a/c are delivered...

How do the -30 and -40 differ in terms of performance?

All DC-10-30 aircraft will be replaced by the A330. So all the routes they are flying on will see the A330. If I am not mistaken AMS routes will be the first to get the A330 aircraft as AMS no longer wants to see these Tri-jets anymore and doesn't grant any extra slots for these aircraft. This makes it hard for Northwest to fly new routes to AMS.

Sorry, OO-VEG, but not all of the DC10-30s are being retired, as stated above, when the A330s arrive and take over the transatlantic flights, some of the DC10-30s will be assigned to the Hawaii runs........at least until NW places a follow-up order for more new aircraft. There are not enough A333s on order to go around.

I thought NW was going to put some 757-300 on HNL runs in replace of some DC-10s. No?

Also, Does NW operate an all 747 Pacific Route Schedule now? I thought I recently saw the NW/KLM DC-10 at Osaka.

What about NW starting up AMS-DEN?

I am planning a trip SDF-DTW-FCO and return in October. The DTW-FCO flights (65 and 66) are shown as DC-10-30's at this time.

Hey DIA, NW may in the long-run try the 753 on its West Coast-Hawaii routes,
but so-far none of NW's 757s, including the 753, are ETOPS, so it is unlikely.....also the 752 or 753 would not have the range to fly from MSP or DTW to Honolulu so those routes remain an issue in any case. NW will fly the DC10-30s to Honolulu for a couple years more, and when the time is right, order a few more A333s to replace the last of the DC10s.

I thought that NW was all 747 accross the pacific at this point, but NW may have a DC10 or 2 stationed in Japan in connection with its hub and connection operations there; NW recently based three A320s in Tokyo to operate connection services on thinner routes.

A320's at NRT?! Thanks for the update. I did not know that; I know that they have hoards of 747s there, but the A320. . .wow. Are the routes getting thin, or are they introducing new routes?

DIA

P.S. Good DC-10 and 757 info too, thanks

The A320's based at NRT (I believe there are three of them) are flying short-range routes to feed into/out of Northwest's long haul flights.

The A320s at NRT fly to BUS,KHH and TPE.
They started in April with the opening of the 2nd runway at NRT.
As all of the NW DC10-40s will be gone by Sept 3rd of this year,
the 30s will be operating the flights to HNL this winter.
NW will receive 6 A330s in 2003 so by that you can figure 6 DC10-30s
will leave the fleet next year
