Is The 757 Cabin The Same Width As The 737?

Wed Jul 31, 2002 2:15 pm

Having just flown on a 757 a couple days ago, I noticed that the cabin seems wider and taller than a 737. I'm pretty sure it is the same, and that it's just the way the cabin interior is layed out, it just gives it a more open feel. Can anyone answer this?

Thanks,
Derek

If I remember correctly and my brain isn't fried after writing a Spanish paper for the last 11½ hours, the 707, 727, 737, and 757 all have the same cabin width.

Yes,
They are all the same width. It is an optical illusion, the 757 just seems wider because of the layout and the legnth of the cabin.

Boeing builds only ONE narrowbody cross section (and cockpit)........

...the 1957 design for the B707 !!!

...and uses it over and over and over again.......

B727-100
B727-200
B737-100
B737-200
B737-300
B737-400
B737-500
B737-600
B737-700
B737-800
B737-900
B757 but, ...... new nose section
B757-300 but, .....new nose section

This can only mean the Boeing cross section is a living classic...

Leo - they have two narrowbody cabin widths now, the 717 has a much narrower cabin !! I think Boeing need to start rationalising their cabin widths (5 is way too many) to reduce costs.

Obviously the 717 is not of Boeing's design being a Douglas DC-9 at heart.

I think the useable interior cabin width actually is 2" wider than it was from the original design due to thinner insulation and closer molded cabin walls.

compared to airbus narrow bodies, Boeing 757,737 windows are lower, and some how uncomfortable. but on Airbus even though they might seem smaller, they are higher so still you can see comfortably

The 757 was of course originaly designed with the same forward fuselage as the 727 which would have meant an even higher degree of commonality.

Wider. Sometime ago I flew on a 57 right after flying on a 37. On the 37 my head was a bit above the top of the window while on the 57 it was a bit below it.

I'll have to research this one but I think that although the 757 shares the floor-width dimension with the 707/727/737 the fuselage cross-section is actually quite different.

The 707 is different from the 737/727/757. The lower lobe is considerably shorter on the later aircraft. Also, while similiar looking, the 727 and 737 share only the windscreen from the 707. The nose, while similiar, is a different shape (and of course, the 757 is totally different).
