Damn thats a nice photo.

Thanks for letting us know where it is again, my Dad who was just in Seattle (who was able to do some spotting as well) was asking me where it could have went (it was there one night, gone next morning).  Smile

It's actually been parked at BFI for the last couple of weeks .. it's been sitting next to the FIRST 747 made ....
I've seen it almost daily riding past Boeing Field on my bike ...

It would have been to Roswell and Edwards doing Rejected Takeoff and other tests as part of the Flight Testing programme.

It might also have been at Moses Lake.

What are the three logos near the front door? I guess one is Qantas, who are the other two then? Air France and KLM perhaps? Or ILFC who ordered the ERs to be leased to Air France?

Mr.BA, what "antenna" sticking out of the tail? All I see is a tail strobe light, a drain mast and some static wicks.  Confused

That thing on the back is a cale that does some kind of air flow test (I think), look at the top of the tail.

As for the customers, ONLY THREE !!. Thats not very good.

Hkgspotter1, thanks for pointing it out. Yes, that is a "tuft" and it is used by engineers to determine the airflow pattern(s) at certain surfaces and off certain flight controls.

it has NOT been at BFI for about a week and a half. My guess would be Edwards or Moses Lake.

There are at least 4 customers and I can only distinguish Air France and Qantas, does anyone know what the first and second logo one from the right are?

Hello,

I believe the one with the purple color is ILFC.

Two questions. First, will the B-747-400ER have 777 style interiors (sidewalls and bins)? And secondly, what is the maximum range of this 744 as opposed to an A340-500?

This aircraft is, in my opinion, the most beautiful Boeing baby that ever was.

I believe the 747-400ER has the range around 7600nm as oppose to A340-500's 8650nm range. I don't see any reason why the new 747 shouldn't have the 777 style interior.

The Qantas -ERs will have the B777 style interiors.
N747ER L/N 1308 ( to become VH-OEE ) returned to BFI from Roswell and Edwards on the 26th, from where it had been conducting Landing Brake Performance and Rejected Takeoff demonstration tests ( at Roswell ) and Max Energy Rejected Takeoffs (RTOs) at Edwards AFB, since the 19th.
Qantas' second aircraft ( and the first that will be delivered to the airline ), VH-OEF, L/N 1313 is due out of the paint shop at Boeing around the 29th.
Range is 7,670nm which would typically allow LAX-MEL, JFK-HKG type city pairs.

Clickhappy .. it seems to be based out of BFI .. I pass by there every day and I've seen it almost every time since August 15.

the plane IS based out of BFI, however if you pass by there "every day" you would know it hasn't been there from Saturday the 17th through yesterday.

Landing brake performance and rejected takeoff test, huh? Wasn't gone very long. I guess no repairs were needed.  Big grin

Flight International has a rather amusing story about the registration of N747ER. Turns out that it's actually the registration of a kit-plane or something of that nature, and that the owner is "lending" the registration temporarily to Boeing until the -400ER is re-registered for Qantas. Big grin

Oh, so THERE it is! When does the 744ER enter commercial service? Is it in the fall of this year?

Nightcruiser.
The first Qantas -ER, to be delivered to Sydney, VH-OEF, is due to enter service in November 2002. VH-OEE ( presently N747ER ) will enter service a few weeks later, once the aircraft has been re-configured, following the flight testing programme, and had the Qantas paint job done.
