PIA 777 - L.A To Karachi Test Flight

Tue Oct 08, 2002 7:48 pm

PIA took a test flight of the 777 from L.A. to Karachi a few days ago. PK crew are currently undergoing training.

It is expected to fly: Karachi - Manchester - Chicago
Karachi - Houston in the coming days.

Houston, L.A and Chicago are new routes planned by PIA once the 777 join the fleet.

I know they don't have any 777s, but Boeing have given them an aircraft to carry out test flights on. The expected delivery date is March 2003.

Where does PIA plan to route the flight to Houston? Manchester? And when would it be expected to start? Also, does PIA have the route authority to begin the route or would they still need to wait for government approval? Thanks.

And what aircraft was that!? I don't think Boeing takes one out of the box and lends it to them...Or they had a 777 that BA returned?

Has anyone spotted this?

Since PIA has no 777s of their own as of yet, what or whose markings are these planes in ? Boeing's House colors or another carriers livery perhaps ?

Frankly I am excited that IAH is getting a new foreign carrier but still a little skeptical (I just hope that they do not do what Singapore Cargo did last year and decide at the last minute to fly into DFW instead of IAH), since we have not had a new int'l carrier since Air Jamacia re-started their IAH-Montego Bay flight in 2001. Now if we can get EK and QR to start their proposed IAH service, IAH might be an intersting airport at which to spot once again.....

I haven't seen any press releases about a PIA order/lease contract for any new aircraft. There were rumours about PIA being interested or even having ordered the 777 or A340. I believe only believe this if I see a press release o either Boeing's official website or Airbus' official website. So far, I haven't seen anything anywhere.

And now PIA is already test flying 777's with first delivery in 2003?

Can someone clear this PIA story about an order for either the 777 or A340?
Somehow, I still don't believe it. Why can't I find any press releases on Boeing's website in their press section about this PIA order?

Wow, that's great that PIA will be serving IAH. I'm sure that the flight will do well, as Houston has one of the largest Pakistani populations in the United States.

The current 777 on test is an N-reg aircraft, full silver fuselage, wearing the PIA logo near the nose.

I am sure that Boeing has two 777, didn't BA return some because of the engines....

So....wouldn't they have those two to do test flights with....last time i checked Bill Harms website (last night) http://www.bird.ch/bharms/asr_sh00.htm the two 777's were not active with any airline....

Thats the aircraft they could have used?? Guess they are back in US registration, or does boeing have a house aircraft???

This sounds very strange. Do you have the registration of the aircraft ? What day was it in LAX ? I'll try to check with some people in LAX to see if some unusual 777 has been there recently. Also believe PIA themselves mentioned first delivery to be in 1Q 2004. Order to be placed later in October this year. Let's see what will happen. Nothing is confirmed yet. The777Man

@Gmonney.
BA returned two of its 777s already, with another three leaving sooner or later, as they are the GE powered non-ER versions of the aircraft.
its been discussed a lot here before, a search will help you find it.

Will the B777 replace the ageing A310 fleet? Or is it the B747 fleet?

Hopefully, we will se some B777 here at OSL as well then, especially around the holidays.

We see PIA three times weekly at OSL flying to Islamabad/Lahore/Karachi.

Any word on operations to Glasgow ? I thought an A310 would be more appropriate than a 777 for this route.

Vadheim 777-200ER will replace the 747-200 fleet, only three of which are operating now which include two Combi's, the A310 fleet is being increased with four more being included to replace four A300B4 taking the total number of A310-300 to ten, two A310-300F are also on the cards for mid 2000. Three flights a week to Oslo is quite remarkable, I thought the route wouldnt do well, never imagined PIA flying there.

According to another thread here Air Pacific, flag carrier of the tiny Pacific island nation Fiji, are taking two 744's for their trunk routes Los Angeles and Sydney, shouldnt PIA consider the United 744s sitting idle in California considering their trunk UK, USA and Saudi Arabia routes are 747 territory and the aircraft is not part of PK's future fleet renewal plan? odd! or do they plan multiple 777s plying on these routes daily?

Another fact showing the potential of PIA is that they are expanding fleet at a time when airlines are going bankrupt. Speaks of how much the resources have been mishandled. Hope they can get a grip on this.

Checked with my friend at LAX who is also very well connected with Operations at LAX Intl Airport and he hasn't heard of any silver 777 with PIA logo. So unless you provide some more info like registration or a photo, I don't really see that this test flight took place. Looking forward for a pressrelease from Boeing on a firm order for 777s by PIA, hopefully later this month. The777Man
