Air Pacific Getting 2 744

Wed Oct 09, 2002 2:32 am

This is from Yahoo! Groups (Orders).

Air Pacific is getting 2 Boeing 747-400, for it's high-traffic trunk route such as LAX and SYD. The 744 will replace 742.

FJ is still looking for medium-haul aircraft, like A330.

I hope they get new ones and not some second-hand examples...

seems sorta silly to dish out the big bucks for a new 744 when there are nice "lightly used" ones sitting in the desert.
When in doubt, one B pump off

Good for them. This is one airline that I have always wanted to fly with but know very little about. Used to love the old colour scheme but not so sure about the new one. Does anybody know anything about them and their product, seating, pax loads etc? Would they ever consider flying to LON? Imagine them here at LHR!!!!! FANTASTIC.

If I recall correctly, some time ago they wanted to start a Fiji-SIN-BOM-MAN route.... whatever became of that? Or was I dreaming?

Two things about Air Pacific:

1. They use 737-800s on YVR-HNL-NADI flights and that hurts. Would love to see them do a YVR-SYD flight with one of the 747s.

2. Best economy food I've ever had on an airline. Free booze.

Glad they are expanding.

That is awesome news! I am really looking forward to seeing Air Pacific 744s at LAX! I hope they bring back either the purple scheme with the rainbow or make a whole new design.
My posts/replies are strictly my opinion and not that of any company, organization, or Southwest Airlines.

Airpacific...
Think a slightly up class market and product of Qantas!!
There service is pretty good, but more often than not, the FA's always dissapear into the Galleys! But i must admitt, their food is really good!!
Their loads on the AKL route are awesome...always full!

It wouldn't surprise me if they had planned to serve Manchester via Bombay and Singapore, primarily because of the large South Asian population in the archipelago, courtesy of the British.

Do we know if these two airframes are newly built? Or are they used aircraft?

This is just a guess but wouldn't the two 744's came from Qantas like the last few 747's Air Pacific has operated????

With the timing they are coming I think maybe VH-NLH may go to FJ and yes I would love to see their old colours again!! I they will put at least the 763 back on the AKL route, the odd 744 would be fantastic!!

Isn´t it so that the new 744ERs for Qantas free up some older 744s that in turn replace the remaining 742s that are scheduled to be retired permanently?
That should mean that no 744 would be leased to Air Pacific. But who knows.
QF doesn´t have surplus 744s, these airlines have: Korean Air (2-4), SIA (4?), United (about 10), MAS (2 at least).

When is Air Pacific scheduled to upgrade to 744s?

Hkgspotter1: It used to be the case that you got free booze on all scheduled except domestics, however CO, NW and shortly DL are charging $4 for alcohol on international flights. I wonder how long before the likes of BA etc will start?

Great service on Air Pacific?

I found the flight attendants to be among the rudest I have ever seen. Their boarding at Nadi was a mess. If I go back to Fiji, which I probably will, I will hopefully fly Air New Zealand.

hgkspotter1 --

There's no free lunch (booze). It's either in the ticket price or it's user-pay. But I can't recall the last time I flew on AC, or a US carrier, international or domestic, and didn't have to fork over some cash for my beer. Maybe I should start shopping around -- or maybe convince the airlines to follow the Australian restaurant model -- you can bring your own!!. (FA's would love that, I bet! An entire cabin full of drunks.)

Another pet peeve (totally off topic) -- Why the h*ll does AC serve French wines instead of Canadian wines? (And no, they're not better -- at least not the ones AC comes up with).
