It isnt the shortest flight on a jet, but it is pretty short from BDL to EWR on one of the 5 daily ERJ145's with CO express. The flight is in the air for maybe 15-18 minutes.

I once flew from Lansing to DTW with NW on a DC9 of some unremembered series number. If memory serves me right, the actual air time was 18 to 22 minutes.

Is 19 minutes on a 737 from Islip NY to Providence Rhode Island short enough?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Take a look at my trip report about this flight in Trip Reports.

"Air time" for a Bahamasair 737-200 between Miami and Nassau is rarely more than 30 minutes.

Southwest will end Providence-Islip 13 January 2003.

If I can recall correctly, TWA had a flight using a L-1011 from JFK-PHL in the 80's. I am also thinking that TWA also flew from JFK-EWR as a position flt. Anyone who is familiar with these flts, please comment. In additio, someone posted a CO flt the other day that was a charter for the NY Yankees that flew to EWR from LGA after dropping them off after their loss to Oakland. Sad We'll get them back next year. Big thumbs up

Artsyman: I know Delta Express flies GSO-RDU (but not RDU-GSO) on a CRJ, but looking at the timetables I see no CO flight. Is that a flight from the past?

At one time Piedmont flew GSO-INT (Winston-Salem, NC), which is only 16 or so miles (with either a 72 or 73, can't remember).

Delta Express....I wasn't sure if it was Comair, ASA, etc. so I put Delta Express. Not the same thing, I know. My mistake. I believe it continues on to CVG.

Back in 1980's, I was a college student at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. So, I flew on USAIR (Now US Airways) B737-200 from ROC to BUF before flew home to BDL. This flight took about 10 mins.

Cheers!

wrangell -> petersberg on AS is short distance wise, but becuase they are allowed to do it VFR, it might have the shortest air time for a jet.

General Roca (Rio Negro Province) GNR to NQN Neuquen (Neuquen province) it must me less than 20 miles.. same runway heading.. on LAPA's 737.. I would say less than 5 minutes in the air.. they dont even retract the landing gear and they keep the flaps down also.. really strange.. but they did it..I really dont know if they keep doing it.. going to check right now

Anybody from Argentina that flew this also???

Air New Zealand once flew a 763 from Auckland to Hamilton on a test flight. Flight time was something under 15 minutes (I can't remember exactly but as it only took an old Bandit 20 minutes it certainly wasn't that long).

I don't know what kind of flights are some of the ones depicted. But I've read about test flights and so.

I've flown two very short SCHEDULED sectors.

Long ago, BCN-MAH-BCN, on Aviaco M80, 20 mins.
What catched my attention is that another couple of friends had flown the same on Air Europa Fokker 50 some hours sooner... and it lasted for 20 mins, too.

The other one was in my last trip to Brazil, of which you can read the full trip report if you like.
My wife's family live in Salvador, Bahia (SSA) and my sister-in-law lives in Goiânia, Goiás (GYN). Most of the flights to/from Goiânia stop at Brasilia, DF (BSB). The flight between BSB and GYN (or vice-versa) is scheduled for 30 to 36 minutes by different companies, and served by VASP on 732s and 734s, by TAM on A319s/320s and F100s, by Nordeste (Varig's subsidiary) on ER4s and by Varig itself on 733s. This connection is served not less than 12 times a day, and by my onw experience, on Rio Sul's (another Varig subsidiary) 735 we were 21 minutes on the air, and one week later, on TAM's F100, 22 minutes. By road it is slightly less than 200 kms.

The flying time between DUS and FRA is with tailwinds approximately 20 to 25 minutes, the biggest plane on that I have flown this route was an A300-600.

Southeast currently has flights that originate at SWF (Newburgh, NY,) and go to EWR then on to Florida. The flight time on their schedule shows 45 minutes, but that must be gate to gate because the drive distance is 73 miles. They are using DC-9's.

Swissair used to fly Brazzaville-Kinshasa with MD-11's at one time.Depending on winds, they took off, banked right and were on finals at the other airport.I spoke to one of the pilots once, and he told me occasionally they didn't retract the gear, the flight being airborne for all of 5 minutes. Now that's a short flight with a widebody!
And it was a scheduled flight, too!

Detroit to Toledo on a Northwest Airlink CRJ-200 has to be one of the shortest. It only takes 30 minutes by car to drive from DTW to Toledo. It would especially be short if the wind is from the south because the plane wouldnt have to circle after take off and before landing, it would just have to take off to the south and then land at Toledo Express.

HlywdCatft ..... you are correct...the taxi time is longer then the actual flight itself. I think average flight time like 8 minutes on the route, especially if there isn't anyone flying, they get cleared direct Toledo right after departure. Well....too bad we'll only be sein' one of those and only 4 Saabs coming up...The Toledo - Detriot route is taking a huge hit here in November/December.

Happy Landings =o)

CO flew a 733 from GSO->RDU from the CO-LITE days until 9/11 when GSO lost all of it's mainline CO service, it was basically a one-stop service flight to EWR from GSO.

American also used to fly F100s from GSO->RDU in the early 90s.

Piedmont flew 727s from GSO->Danville (30 miles) and GSO->INT (16 miles) back in the 80s.

And currently, Comair has a GSO->RDU flight that is a one-stop flight from GSO to CVG.

For the shortest big jet, Bahrain-Doha on either BA's 777 or GF's A330 or A340.

Flight time is under 25 minutes - airborne time can be less than 20.
