Well it falls down to 2 countries, The US or Russia. Does CO fly nonstop EWR-HNL? If so that surely must be the longest.

The shortest is easy. Westray-Papa Westray in the UK. About 2 minutes with a headwind.

Well, in the US the longest domestic non-stop is SFO-JFK taking up 2,586 nautical miles.

Second in the run is LAX-JFK non-stop encompassing 2,475 nautical miles.

Wouldn't it be DL's ATL-ANC (Seasonal) or AA/s MIA-SEA?

Surely SFO/LAX-JFK are not in the running. Are they? SEA-IAD, LAX-MCO, LAX-MIA come to mind as longer. And everyone knows that I am never wrong.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

It would either be EWR-HNL on CO or ANC-ATL on Delta, I think. I'm not sure what the deal is now, but in the past ATA flew JFK to HNL.

Is there a nonstop route between Vladivostok and St. Petersburg or Moscow?

I checked the website. Continental does do EWR-HNL. Long flight, something like 12 hours.

JFK is not even a factor in the longest domestic US route because anywhere to the west coast would be at least 150 or so more miles from Boston. But then when you include ANC flights, even a ANC-ORD beats out the Boston to west coast flights.

I think it is CO's EWR-HNL flight that is the longest.

Just wait for Hawaiian to announce JFK-HNL with our 767-300's. That should beat them all!! Big grin

HAL

Will Hawaiian start service between YYZ/HNL ?
HA service would be so much better then Air Canada.
I used to work for Canadian Airlines and our HNL service left alot to be desired.

Lasbagman,
I haven't heard even the faintest rumor about going to YYZ, but personally I have thought about it in the past as being a great place for us to go. Big customer base and (I think) an underserved market. Would be great if we could convince Adams & co. to try it.

Well, just plugging into this Great Circle Mapper, the longest in the US is EWR-HNL, at 4312nm (other east coast to Hawaii flights would be up there to). Flights to ANC don't come close, nor do LAX-BOS etc.

However, ORY-RUN (Paris Orly - Réunion) beats these at 5041nm (and ORY-CAY - Orly to Cayanne - is 3834nm)

Now, if only I knew Vladivostok's code...

Aeroflot operates the nonstop Moscow-Vladivostok service using an A310, scheduled flight time 8hrs 35mins. Barrel of laughs, I'm sure.

Vladivostok is VVO.

I think you'll find that all of the major airports on the Russian Pacific coast are similar flying times to Moscow.

Try Moscow (SVO / DME) to Petropavlovsk (PKC), Vladivostok (VVO), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (UUS) and Anadyr (DYR).

East to west is longest.. about 10 hours or so flying time.

Incidentally, SVO-VVO comes in as 3473nm.

So can we crown ORY-RUN as the longest then? Are there any objections?

RAF operates L-1011s (nonstop?) from Brize Norton to Mount Pleasant, if flown nonstop, this route would even be 7861 nm.

Thomas,

Those flights make a stop at Ascension Island in the middle of the Atlantic.

The longest domestic flight within the lower 48 states is Alaska Airlines' daily Miami-Seattle service, which starts 22 November 2002.

AA used to operate 757s on the MIA to SEA route, Alaska have picked it up again which is nice to see.

Is Vladivostok actually in RUSSIA or just the USSR? In other words, is it still a domestic flight or did it become an international one after the end of the Cold War? I didn't realise Mother Russia was so big.

I guess one of the French flights takes the cake when it comes to technically domestic flights.
If we count only continuous land masses, anyone beat MOW-VVO? (Yes it is Russia).

Vladiwostok is still in 'Russia', so Moscow-Vladiwostok is a russian domestic flight. Mostly operated by IL62

Hmm... one of the shortest commercial flights could possibly be Malta Aircharter's short MLA-GZM hop (around 10-15 mins). I don't know how much the distance is but definitely not more than roughly 25nm. The aircraft used is a Mi-8 helicopter.

If Hawaii is counted I don't see why Reunion shouldn't be. It actually is a district of France and even uses the euro!

I think we are only counting non-stops here. Is it? And Reunion is a PART of France right, not a territory (else surely LAX-GUAM would take it for the USa), right?

Moscow to Vladivostok is 3989 miles so if we are talking ~continentally~ within the same country  Wink/being sarcastic then it would have to be Moscow to Vladivostok followed by Vancouver to Halifax!

YVR-YHZ has not operated for more than a year now. Second place continentally (in the sense of not flying over a foreign country's airspace; because EWR-ANC on CO is continentally) would be MIA-SEA (2724 miles).
