JAL 747-400F Picture

Thu Oct 10, 2002 5:22 pm

Boeing´s homepage features an excellent rendering of a 747-400F in JAL´s new livery.
Just have a look.

It is a nice picture but I wish JAL kept the crane logo.

I like it. It plays to the "rising sun" quite well.

CFM-56: Awarded for the worst design?

This new livery is pitiful, their crane logo is so distinctive and with this plain livery (too white?), it's just lost all character.

The new white looks duller than the old white. I've always pictured JAL livery to be bright and shiny, sorta with a chrome appeal to it.

That livery is terrible!

I really used to like JAL's livery, my opinion has changed.

I do like the tail design, it speaks about a rising sun ery well.

However, I will agree with everyone else, it isn't a step forwards, that's for sure.

While Boeing´s illustration is absolute top-class I indeed have a doubt that JAL´s new livery is a winner like most on this forum. Too plain, quite "static" and especially the type-logo isn´t better than the current one - and less "Japanese". I like JALs current type-Logo a lot.
This new design looks like the creation of too many cooks: Everybody put its spice in and then they wonder why it doesn´t taste good...

The livery looks ok to me. but what's up with the winglets? Even the big boys have difficulty drawing the winglets?

I actually don't really mind the new scheme aside from the little swoop on the 'a' in red...that needs some revision...also I think they should incorperate the logo on the tail....

The more I look at it, the more strongly I felt that something is not right with the titles. The red stroke between the "A" and the "L" looks increasingly like an overly stylized "I" to me. So, what do you get when you put an "I" in that position? "JAIL" !!  Laugh out loud

Those winglets look suspiciously like the ones on the 737-700/-800? Is this just a mistake, or are Boeing planning on fitting these to 747-400s? I seem to recall something about a Cathay Pacific a/c being used to test them (this would have been about 6 months or so ago, I think).

Anyone know?

Monstrosity!

I can't be mad at Air Pacific or EL AL anymore. As far as I'm concerned, JAL has now moved up to first place as worst livery. I dread seeing this thing at LAX.

These winglets lool different indeed. I also heard that the company developing the 737 is working on solutions for the 747 or maybe they are spin offs from the 747X design.

I think you have to get used to the new JAL livery!

Have a nice day,

well, i might be in the minority here, but I like it. the tail shows off the rising sun rather well, it gives it more national identity.

Pity BA took so long to realise the same!

LOL...but i also said i liked the Tui scheme!
This JAL scheme looks very Futuristic!!

But i also have to agree that FJ's livery is and HAS to be the worst in the industry!

Dataman will say again: It really sucks.

BTW, although not all of new JLS(Japan Airlines System; it sounds kidding) crafts are painted followed, that is OFFICIAL new livery. You can check on this (Japanese) page: http://www.jal.co.jp/jals_brand/. The one on right end is for livery. Also, I found a picture from JAS side.

It really looks like "JAIL"  Smile
