sorry to bother with such a lousy question but I couldn't find an answer on SAA's website.
Does SAA have PTVs in economy class on all of their 747s ?
I see they mainly use 747-300s to Frankfurt, so what are they like as for the PTVs please. I think I can assume that their 340-600s which will be flying on the route next year will definitely have them.
Also, what's their general service like ?

yes they do. if you can avoid flying economy with SAA i suggest you do so. i did it once and that will never happen again. there is NO legroom what so ever, so just be prepared

Which carrier has legroom in Y? I flew LH from CPT to FRA lastweek and my legs were dead when we arrived in Frankfurt...that was on a 744 (D-ABVS)

Thanks for the answers. Amazing that they even have PTVs on their 747-300s ! Didn't really expect that. Yes, their legrom in economy with "31 seems really bad. Most airlines have "32 if I remember correctly.

I must differ with Trey, SAA do not have PTVs onboard any aircraft except their 747-400s, currently being fitted with the company's "millenium" configuration and product up-date.
SAA always had a little more legroom in Y cabin than other carriers, however this has changed as the company is now alligning its seat pitch to conform to industry-standard. I don't know if the 747 classics will have seat pitch changed, you might be lucky and get a plane not updated. I guess economics have forced SAA to get as many people in the plane as is (un)comfortably possible?
If the -300 do have PTVs, then my apologies, but I am certain they do not.
Service is good, FAs are efficient and look STUNNING in new designer uniforms, aircraft are well maintained and always clean.

I flew SAA two years ago, LHR-CPT (B747-200) and JNB-LHR (B747-400). They didn´t have PTV's in economy class, and their seat pitch was very much the same as in most companies, BA, QF, SQ, LH or UA
Inflight service was pretty good and the meals were fine. I don´t know how they are doing now. Two years ago I was impressed when I saw a FA put a table cloth on my seat table before putting the meal tray on it. Something I've never even seen on the so good re-known SIA
The LHR-CPT flight was the most pleasant one I've ever had, the plane was more than half empty in Y class and I had the chance to stretch myself on 4 seats across to sleep. FA's were very polite and efficient, and they gave us a good and complete amenity kit

SA-Jet is right. I remember a few years ago, when flying Cape Town to London and Joburg to Sydney, their Y Class seats had about 34" pitch downstairs which was fantastic.
Their service has always been average to good - good when you get a good crew - but the African welcome on board and overall African service is one which always makes me smile

I flew Business Class on SAA about 4 years ago LHR-DUR, and that a/c had PTV's and was a 743 (or was it a 200SUD ??) Don't know what they had back in steerage though.
I've also flown on a 742 from JNB-LHR. Must have rated quite highly in my top 10 worst flights ever - nearly lost an eye when an F/a opened the locker above my head without checking first and someone's crutch came crashing down into my face !!. The very rear most section of the cabin had a fault and all the reading lights and call bells kept intermittently going off and on. When the crew were asked about this, they said -" oh it does this all the time" - very reassuring !!. Oh and on the same flight, the guy with the crutch had a plaster cast from hip to toe, he paid for 4 seats so logic would say give him 4 middle seats - not SAA, they gave him one of the 2 seaters and the 2 seats behind !!.

Are there PTVs on SAAs 744s that fly between ATL and South Africa and JFK and South Africa, or not in order to save weight considering the distance of those flights? Also, what routes does SAA serve to Europe and with what aircraft?
