Very nice but I bet AirOrange could have done a "very impressive" livery for them...

That is one dull, crappy livery. Bring back the flying ciggie with the crane on the tail. With this new one there just isn't enough going on to keep the attention, especially the tail. What were they thinking?!

It's not bad at all but the old/current design is way better. I can't wait to see the new scheme on their other aircraft, namely the 747, MD-11 & DC-10 but I doubt it will change my perception of the new scheme  Smile

It's weird how they haven't painted the little curvy bit at bottom of the leading edge of the tail fin. If you squint it makes the A300 look like a 777.

Hum, it can be smart on MD-11, don't you think ? Maybe more than the 777.

It would have been cool for a charter airline, not for one of the most prestigious airline in the world...

Ugly!

Am I the only person who likes it? I still think its classy and quite relevant with the 'land of the rising sun' and all ..... I bet it'll grow on me alot more as well.

I think it's dull and uninspired. Traditional Japanese aesthetics have been trashed generally in favor of empty, "futuristic" designs. It shows up everywhere in Japan: buildings, the landscape, and so on.

The more I look at it, the more I begin to like it. It may not be the world's best livery, but it certainly is nice.  Smile

I've never been much of one for airlines who slap a bucket of paint over their tail and call it a 'livery'.

I have to say now that's better then the old scheme, however the A300's looked better with JAS.

Does anyone know if the last A300-600 to JAS was in the JAS scheme or JAL scheme ??

Is this for real? They are really giving up the crane for this? It's bland, boring, dull and uninspired... please someone tell me this is a joke or one of those retouched images..

Aside from the font used for "Japan Airlines", I actually really like it. If anything, I think it is just as plain as the old livery so I don't think it's fair to criticize it on that basis. The red and the silver lining are very bold and relevant I think.

Let's hope that this turns out abandoned like the ill-conceived liveries of Air India, Delta, and British Airways. It is so dull and stupid.

Hugo, I agree.. The "JAL" with the swoosh in it is kinda neat but the rest is so bland. It looks like a temporary charter divison of JAL.. the JAL Crane has been around for decades.. to just uncerimoniously toss it out and replace it with a red blotch (presumably a rising sun?) is disappointing. In this case the airline industry is tossing away it's history with little respect.. Some symbols (LH's bird, American's Eagle, KLM's Crown, Air Canada's Maple Leaf, Alitalia's "A", Delta's widgit, Swiss' White Cross, Varig's compass etc.) have been around many decades... their look sometimes transforms over time but the form stays in principle and in the end the airlines respect their marketing power leaving them as world wide symbols of recognition.. the JAL Crane was one of the best in that sense.. JAL could have modified it somewhat and incorporated it into a new dynamic livery.. this standard white fuselage/coloured tail thing they came up with is a big let down from one of the world's best airlines.

AJ - it ain't obvious to us who live on the other side of the world.. It's just part of a red circle placed on the tail.. I'm guessing like the Red Circle on the Japanese flag but the symbolism of it could be anything from our end.. kinda like Asiana's tail.. a total mystery to me what the logo is and why those colours in the stripes.. they are meaningless to me.. as is this new JAL tail. Anyways I really don't care because they'll never be flying into eastern Canada where I live so our opinions are meaningless to JAL marketing people... as long as they're happy and it doesn't hurt their sales it will stay.

Sarcasm Caribb, a crane I could recognise. Something out of a Star Wars movie I had to look up.

Doesn't a rising sun have more recognition globally than a crane? I've always associated it more with Japan than the bird. It just seems so obvious. In a sense, JAL is using Japan's flag on its tails, so critics of the design are effectively bagging Japan's symbols because they miss the bird.

The red and white is part of Japan's cultural landscape with the flag and so forth, while the silver could be interpreted in many ways - a silver lining providing hope? a recognition of Japan's modern society and embracing of technology?

And how can it get much more boring than a little gray line on the front, surrounded by a blaze of white with a little red bird on the tail? Now that was snore material.
