Refer to Krungthep Durakij Thai newspaper today said the Thai management have kicked off their plan to modernize there first nine 744s fleet.
Thery will introduce the new modern 180 degree decling seat to its aged 744s and installed the 10.5" PTVs (60 IFE programs, cordless phone, PC power connection) , including more luxurios changing room corner on first class.
Also on business class, we will see 8.5-10.5" PTVs which increases the IFE channels more (To beat the krisworld may be ^-^).
another great news, they will put also PTV on economy class, so imagine how cool !!
and the seat pitch is also great as same 34" in couch while in first class will be 82-85" and in royal executive class will be 60"..
That's all update on Thai 744... no news yet for the rest 773/772 and 330
Thai is just taking off....But still shake other asian carriers!!

Sounds great, and let's hop it will bring Thais reputation back to its former heights. (last time i visitet airline quality ranking, thay had droped to only 3 stars. Some years ago they were ranked 5)

This is a much needed upgrade. Thai's cabin equipment is definitely substandard. The 744s I was on recently were very dated, and the A300 was even worse!

Juz about this Thai thing.. I've noticed Thai has started removing the Star Alliance sticker together with the much-outdated 72nd King's Birthday sticker...

Why would they get rid of the Star stickers??? The king had a loooooong celebration obviously

Isn't the King something like 74 or 75 already?
This has probably to do with the fact that Thai is in hard competition with Singapore Airlines on transfering passengers from Europe to Asia.
It has not been a secret that TG was never too happy about Singapore Airlines joining the Alliance and now it even forces them to an update of their product...
Is the removing of the Star Alliance sticker to add some extra pressure on the alliance since it is weakend at the moment with the crisis at United Airlines to make the other partners see them again and not just to worship SQ??? Or do they seriously wanna leave now?

33-34" in coach and PTVs: that's an unusual combination - only MH has that good pitch, but with PTVs. Many airlines with PTVs, for whatever reason, seem not to have great pitch, VS being the worst offender here.
The airline has needed to do this for a long time and I'm glad it has recognised the need. Presumably this will extend to all its widebody fleet in due course and to the A340-5/600, whenever these are ordered.

I think Thai just remove the King celebration and Star sticker just for a while to newer the aircraft. don't be serious. they surely don't leave Star..

It may not be surprising if they leave Star... if they do then Star might lose out to oneworld, with threats of ANZ leaving and UA's future is uncertain...

I agree with ROP that the absence of the Star Alliance sticker is not indicative of their happiness or displeasure with it or Singapore Airlines. It was absent from all the newer deliveries . . . and when they repainted some of their planes (in a long-overdue exercise), they did not put on the sticker (maybe someone forgot to order a new batch of stickers?).
Although the "King's 72 Celebration" stickers are being removed, those with a sense of loss will draw comfort from the fact that you will still see the slogan - in white.
The King turned 75 on 5 Dec 2002 . . . so it looks like the 72nd Birthday celebration was a 3-year affair!
This cabin upgrade exercise is really long overdue . . . compared to cabin amenities on its rivals' fleet, Thai seems to have lagged behind very seriously and was losing front-end customers. They no doubt continues to fill up the rear end of the cabin.
