My first (and only  Sad ) DC-10 flight was HKG-NRT on a UA DC-10-30 that used to belong to British Calendonian in the spring of 1986--this was shortly after UA took over Pan Am's Pacific Division.

Ah, they don't make them like they used to. Next to the 747, the DC-10 is one fine looking aircraft. My first DC-10 experience was actually my first flight [1984]. YVR - AMS on CP Air's "Big Orange".

MIA - LAX, spring of 1993 on AA. The plane was full and we used every inch of that runway at MIA... Nice, smooth and fast flight.

First operational as a crew member was LGW-IAH on a DC-10/30. Hated this aircraft from the day i operated on it and was glad to see the back of them when they retired from the fleet. What an absolute nightmare to work on and so NOISY.....you had to shout in the galleys to be heard. Passengers lied it because of the room but from a crew point of view they were awful...well for me personally. Does any major airline apart from NW still operate them, must are cargo planes now?????

My first DC-10 flight was on an American Trans Air DC-10-10 from Lisbon to JFK in August 1985. I remember that the flight was very enjoyable and not overly crowed. We were fed steak and the meal was much better than on the JFK to Lisbon flight a month earlier.

My one and only DC-10 flight was on a UA DC-10-10 from KSEA to KORD, apart from having a splitting headache the flight was nice. We had to divert on route by 500 miles to avoid some severe thunderstorms, this made the flight longer but I wasn't complaining  Smile/happy/getting dizzy The 777 I flew on as a continuation of the flight, wasn't half as enjoyable.

Mine took place in March of 1974 on Delta, ATL-LGA. I remember it clearly because the flight left early in the a.m., around 6 or 6:30. You can just image how large it seemed to me as a 12 yr old who was used to flying on DC-9's, 727's, and on 1 previous flt on a DC-8, which to took place on the flt to ATL from JFK via Eastern. (Another memory for another time Big thumbs up) Delta also just happens to be the same airline in which I had my 1st flt 5 years earlier, in 1969. This was my 1st time experiencing heavy turbulence and it shook me up for a while, however I just went along with the ride Smile I'll miss them as well as the L1011's. Crying

The first airplane ride I took was when I was 9 months old, from San Fransisco to Detroit on a Northwest Orient DC10. The first DC10 that I can remember ever flying on was in 1992 from Seattle to Detroit. Ever since that flight, I fell in love with that plane. The sound on take off, that grrrrrrrrrr, the plane itself inside, everything about it gives me goosebumps. I will be very, very sad when they are removed from service with the airlines. Long live the DC10!

My first flight with DC-10 was in 1989 from JFK to FRA.The plane was DC-10-40 and we did couple go-arounds in FRA because the very poor weather and broken navigation instruments. All thought it was a very nice flight and i had the chance to go see the cockpit and announce my greetings to my mother who was sitting in the cabin  Smile

First DC-10 flight for me was on an Air New Zealand DC-10-30 in January of 1979 SYD-AKL-PPT-LAX, with a week's stay in Papeete, Tahiti. I was only 7 at the time, but I still remember the trip.

Since then, I have also flown on a CP Air DC-10-30 from YEG to AMS back in 1983 (my dad unfortunately lost his bags)

And the last time I was on a DC-10 was with Canadian Airlines in July, 1993 from YVR-HNL on the way to SYD, and return to YVR a month later.

I believe it was in June of 1977..ORD-YYZ. First trip on a widebody
as well. I was amazed. I also had my first flight on a 707 on the return
trip from ORD-SFO.

January 1978...AA flt 181 ORD-PHX...after that flight I was hooked...DC-10's were my favorite for a long time. Now the 21st century aircraft, the 777 is it.
But the DC-10 will always have a special place as one of my favorites.

Sun Country DC-10 from MSP-MCO. I don't remember much about it. I remember being in the HHH terminal when they didn't have windows (Don't know if they still do, its been a while). I remember after we landed, I thought it was the best looking plane I have ever seen, with the giant orange sun on the fuselage. It was the old livery.

So many young people....

My first DC10 flight was in December 1977 or 78 on the good old "DC10 Spaceships" of Western Airlines from LAX to MIA. I have such a vivid memory of waking up to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville on the audio entertainment as the sun is about to rise above the horizon.

Ahh!! the memories....

Swiss Air!

a may 1986 DC-10 bound for Zurich from Manila, which was horrendous, the flight took us to stopovers in Bangkok, Bombay, and somewhere else and then onward to Zurich. the flights at the time peaked at almost 24 hours!

Although I still miss the old Brown Stripes on the fuselage of those aitcraft.

I also remember that they charged for food (a hot dog was $1.50, I think) and that they showed an old black and white movie that was edited to 30 minutes in length.

Mexicana DC-10-30 on January 13 1980. I was eight at that time and I will never forget that special sound of the engines at take off and the enormous the plane seemed to me. It was my first wide body trip. I was accustomed to fly on Mexicana´s 727's and when I boarded the DC-10 I felt like I was on the third floor of a building, all the other planes seemed so small......and the size of the wings. No other plane have impressed me so much since I first boarded that DC-10
