What kind of music reminds you of Flying/Flight?

In a way Ayumi Hamasaki's song "Voyage" and "A Song is Born" as well as Do As Infinity's "Fukai Mori" seem to remind me of flying. As well as Andrea Bochelli's "Conte Partiro" and of course Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue". (and I wonder why I chose Rhapsody in Blue Big grin

)

Hey,

I would say Lenny Kravitz, Fly Away. I guess its because its the last song I heard on my last Canada 3000 A330-200 flight back on October 31st 2001. We were on route from Toronto to Port Of Spain Trinidad.

Also, Debussy's Claire de Lune was excellent on my MD player on Concorde.

It's all about Kansas and "Born on wings of steel". Last summer I was flying a rare GA mission and lost my engine at 800agl on climb out and luckily managed to get a restart at 200agl. After getting the engine inspected and signed off I flew it home, and driving home from the airport I heard, " I'm still Alive" by Pearl Jam. Its funny how those things happen. Mines always remind me of a certain flight, since when I listened to them for the first time I was on board an aircraft.

"Blue Bayou" -Linda Ronstadt, 1977. Flying LGA-YYZ on board an AA B-727.

"Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" -Carpenters, 1978. Flying JFK-BCN on board a TW 707.

"Carnival" -Spyro Gyra, 1978. Flying MAD-JFK on board a TW B-747.

"Christina" -Earl Klugh, 1997. Flying MRU-LHR on board a MK A-340.

"After the Storm" - Norman Brown, 1998. Flying CDG-CCS on board an AF A-340.

"Last look" -Torcuato Mariano, 1999. Flying AMS-HKG on board a KLM B-747-400.

I have many others, all of them logged, but those are the ones I remember the most.

Ray of light - Madonna, Mainly because of the video with the planes landing and taking off really quick, very nice.

Also, whichever song they play whilst i'm boarding or just about to get off a plane. Last time i flew it was Will Young, Evergreen Laugh out loud

1. "Rhapsody in Blue makes me think of flying & UAL." . . . .Ditto. Not only does it make me think of UAL, but it reminds me of the respectable position of being part of a crew. . .whether it's pilot, FO, or what have you. It song takes you through nice, smooth weather, then throws in some turbulance, some excitement, and so on. . .to me, it covers all the bases of flying.

2. Now, on the flip side, you have Willie Nelson! ". . .and our golden jet is airborne, and flight fifty cuts a path across the morning sky. And the crew aboard our airplane assures us that flight fifty is the way to fly. . ." . . .something like that.

3. Elton John's "Rocket Man"

And Many Many Others! Order Now!

For me, when I hear the song "Storms in Africa" my Enya

Ansett Australia used this as their theme song in a large advertising campaign in the mid 1990's.

It always brings a tear to my eye, considering that Ansett is now definct.

There was this music that KLM used to play a lot back when I used to fly with them a lot in the 80's. I'm not positive what it was called but I once heard someone call it 'The Amsterdam Song'. That definitely reminds me of flying. Also, 'Song for Guy' from Elton John and 'Just Once' from James Ingram. There are tonnes more that I could name, I'm sure, but these were the first 3 that popped into my head when I read this post. I guess I must have heard them during a particularly pleasant flight. Good question, this.

This might sound odd, but its ; Daniel Bedingfiled - Gotta Get Thru This - Because when I went away in Nov 2001 it was the first song played when I got into the car, and in Feb 2003 it was again the first song played Smile

so it always reminds me now...+ its a really good song.

How could I forget that song. Instant flying classic.

By the way, I went to John's funeral memorial service in Aspen a few days after his death. I hadn't ever met him, but he's a legend in my family (and state Big grin

). I did, however, get to see him land and takeoff many times at Centennial Airport in his jets! And the people I know who did meet him; they say he was like a regular neighbor who loved, and had a passion for aviation. . .much like us here.

In the mid- to late-60s, WELI, a Bridgeport AM radio station, used to play two instrumentals that were about flying: Nightjet and Night flight to Madrid. I never heard them anywhere else except on that station.

‘Supersonic’ by Oasis always makes me think of flying on a 747. Oasis is one of my favorite groups and ‘Supersonic’ has to rate as one of my all-time favorite songs of theirs. It’s exhilarating. And the lyrics are great too.

Another song that makes me think of flying is U2’s ‘Ultra Violet (Light My Way).’ Beautiful piece by U2, very soothing.

Foo Fighters' Next Year reminds me of flying a lot. I like to listen to it on the first leg of a long trip.

Another song is Porcelain by Moby. I remember listening to it a lot during countless trips to Los Angeles during the summer of 2001.

Dude, Supersonic is totally one of the best songs ever.

as for flying, "Listen Up" always reminds me of flying because it's talking about being on your own, and flying is just such an independent experience, in a sense.

"Full On" by Oasis also reminds me of flying, it's just such a powerful song.

"Selling the Drama" by Live is a favourite too. It always reminds me of my first trip to London.

Man I didn't realize how many Oasis fans there were in here. Every time I land in the UK I can't help but think of Noel singing, "Listen Up" and the presence of green pastures... I just saw Oasis in Dublin not too long ago. They opened with "Full On." Another song I think of when I fly, is when I see a couple at the airport that is breaking up and they are about to leave one or the other behind and as we take off I can hear Liam singing, "As my day was dawning, my plane flew away with the tears caught in my eyes," from the song, "Don't Go Away."

Six years after this song was first released I think it is more true than ever. South Africa is nowadays the strongest growing tourist market in the world. SAA making profits (headline profit of R553 million in 2002) and good results in Q1 2003 on most routes certainly show that SAA is on the right path - thanks to its CEO Andre Viljoen (which in my opinion deserves to be mentioned together with such airline CEO's as Jurgen Weber of LH) which turned the airline around - to establish itself as a financially successful and strong carrier for the future.

Metallica - Any song that sounds "epic" i.e. - "Damnage Inc." "The Call of Ktulu" "Master of Puppets". These work really well only on a high-powered take-off. Also some Hardcore like Give up the Ghost, or Black Box...Anyway, I know many of you may not like "real" Punk or hardcore...but try the metallica it works nice especially on the S&M album (the one with the symphony)!
