Ditto Scott Joplin-Maple Leaf Rag. I distinctly remember AA playing it as deboarding music on a DC-10-30 flight LGW-DFW in 1985.

For me "Honolulu City Lights" by Keola and Kapono Beamer does it. I always think of this song when I leave on a trip, especially on night flights when I see the lights passing by.

"I' m alive" by Celine Dion. I like that song. I was in Paris Charles de Gaulle waiting for my flight to New York when I first heard that song, while waiting for boarding I went to the music store and listened to the CD. That was last year when Celine Dion released her album.

"A new day has come" also by Celine Dion. Once on a flight from Chicago to Brussels on American Airlines, there was her clip on the movie screen. I like both the song and the clip.

Ditto Phil Collins "Take me home". Never forget it after a hellacious week in LA on a red eye LAX-DFW flight.

Anything by David Foster (St Elmos Fire, Flight of the Snowbirds, etc.) He gets the inspiration for many of his songs while flying his plane.

One of the best though is from a guy named Michael Tomlinson called "All is Clear". They lyrics seem as though they were describing my life:

It's been raining here
I can smell it in the air
And I love this southern city like I spent my childhood there
It is inevitable that we will soon be saying our goodbyes
But I'll always have your skyline in my eyes

I have loved and lost all around your city blocks
And the years have gone and painted me
like leaves against the rocks
And in my haste to make a new life where I'm going I don't know
I will turn around and wave then I am gone

And as those big jet engines ignite
And take me over the mountains alone I'm in flight
I think of the love in my life
I look out on the night and I am gone

Way up here it all is clear and I'm not afraid
of living with these tears
Way up here it all is clear and I'm not afraid
of living in these years

I have watched my friends scatter out across the land
And I wonder if I'll live so long to see them all again
And if I don't well it don't matter they will love me all the same
For the hearts that I love most remain unchanged

I have dreamed of a time when I'd leave this all behind
But I thought that I'd be stronger or I hoped that I'd be blind
But now I know that I am neither and it hurts to say goodbye
I will always have your skyline in my eyes

And as those big jet engines ignite
And take me over the mountains alone I'm in flight
I think of the love in my life
I look out on the night and I am gone

Way up here it all is clear and I'm not afraid
of living with these tears
Way up here it all is clear and I'm not afraid
of living in these years

So clear
Oh all is clear
All is clear
All is clear

When I'm on flights with my dad in the left seat, I listen to loud, heavy stuff, like Pantera and Metallica.

However, when its just another flight and my dad is at home or with us but not flying, I love the Top Gun soundtrack.

The Beach Boys Kokomo always reminds me of travel and thus flying.

Leavin' On a Jet Plane - Peter, Paul & Mary
You Belong to Me - Jo Stafford
Come Fly With Me - Frank Sinatra

I work for Southwest, but the views expressed are my own and do not necessarily represent those of Southwest.

I am sure not many people on here have heard of her, but there is a Christian artist named Sarah Masen. When I first started travelling I listened to her CD every time. The one song that sticks in my mind I believe is called "Fly Baby".

Also, I love Adiemus. The whole CD is wonderful, and it is the music that they were playing while boarding on the Delta MD80s. I listen to lots of others... but those come to mind particularly.

Frank Zappa: Camarillo Brillo

I remember that I heard this song during my first approach into SFO.

Some personal favs

>Ditto on Coldplay-Trouble...

>One that hasn't been mentioned...Queen-One Vision...can't help but think of Iron Eagle with Louis Gossett Jr.

>Morning has Broken-Cat Stevens (perfect for red-eye flights)

>Simon & Garfunkel-Homeward Bound

>Harry Nilsson-Everybody's Talkin (from Midnight Cowboy)...has this amazing "traveling" rhythm.

>Pink Floyd-Learning to Fly...can't believe it took so long to be mentioned earlier (Momentary Lapse of Reason was the VERY 1st album I EVER bought, solely because of that song...have EVERY album now)

>Del Amitri-Might as Well be You

>David Gray-Forever is Tomorrow is Today

>Toto-Africa (She's coming in 1230 flight//...//I seek to cure what's deep inside; frightened of this thing that I've become)...good stuff.

>Boston-We're Ready (from Third Stage)...conjures up images of being in "position and holding" awaiting clearance for takeoff.

I could probably think of more...fantastic topic BTW
Cheers,
Markus

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole: Somewhere over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World - This one reminds me of the morning I left for Japan, I never actually listened to it while flying, but I woke up to the song, and it was in my head all day.

The Beatles: Do You Want to Know a Secret? - Same as above, it was playing on the shuttle bus as we drove from the West Coast Sea-Tac Hotel to SEA and it was in my head all during the flight from SFO to HNL.

Metallica: Devil's Dance - Flying on Alaska Airlines flight 63, Seattle to Sitka.

The Guess Who: American Woman - This one reminds me of landing of landing in Seattle at night time, for I was listening to it durring our decent a few years back.

Guns n Roses: You Could Be Mine - Reminds me of a flight on an Alaska Airlines MD-80 I think it was, looking out over Mt. Adams on our way south to Ontario, or some LA area airport.

I think thats all.

Shamrock1Heavy, hell yeah. Metallica is where its at. Damage Inc is definately "epic," especially the intro. However when I hear the intro to that song it gives me the image that some major sh*t is about to go down, and then the chaos kicks in when those heavy E5 power chords come in. Hooyah.

Anyone remember Pinky and Perky? They remind me of flying to Ireland when I was young.
