Airbus Looking Into US Facility For Military Conve

Wed Jun 25, 2003 7:52 am

To all:

The Wall street Journal carried an intersting article today in which an Airbus official talked about plans for a US facility for coverting Airbus a/c to military
versions. The idea is to establish a US facility in order to bid for defense work.

I don't exactly see what "opportunities" Airbus sees for military conversions. There are only so many possible venues for converting commercial a/c to military purposes. The tanking requirement is already in Boeing's camp; so where else? I think that versions of the 767 will proliferate just like the 707 did, so what else can Airbus be looking to?

Thoughts and comments??

What a boon to the economy if Airbus did build a facility in the U.S. All those cities looking to land the 7E7 plant just got another opportunity, if this happens.

I don't see any reason or need for them to do this other than to say they do the "conversion" work in the U.S.A. I believe they are trying to increase the U.S. workforce load of any possible military order by the U.S.A.F. It is not going to happen though.
