Your City's Biggest O&D Markets

Sun Jul 06, 2003 1:37 am

Here are the biggest domestic O&D markets for the two Miami area airports, MIA and FLL (list does not include STT/STX/SJU)

Some things I found interesting:
...Miami has non-stop service to all of it's Top 25 domestic O&D markets
...812 people a day travel between Miami and Raleigh. However, only 188 of them bother going through Miami, which has three daily non-stops. The other 624 fly through Ft. Lauderdale, which has no non-stops to the Research Trinagle (but will starting 1 September with Delta Connection)
...Islip, New York and Atlantic City, New Jersey are among the top 25 O&D markets from Ft. Lauderdale. Albany, NY and Buffalo, NY also rank up there. While it seems odd, it should come as little surprise since the Miami area's ties with New York and New Jersey are extremely strong.
...more people travel between Ft. Lauderdale and Seattle than between Miami and Seattle, even though Miami has the only non-stop
...the four cases where more people travel through MIA than FLL are to Dallas, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, and San Francisco.

For Miami International Airport:
1) New York City (EWR/LGA/JFK)
2) Atlanta
3) Chicago (ORD/MDW)

18) Phoenix
19) Pittsburgh
20) Charlotte
21) St. Louis
22) Orlando
23) Raleigh/Durham

*SJU would probably slot right after Philadelphia

1) New York City (EWR/LGA/JFK) (most traveled city pair in the US)
2) Chicago (ORD/MDW)
3) Atlanta
4) Boston
5) Philadelphia

I don't have exact numbers, but out of Boston, it would have to be New York (all three airports). Boston - New York is a very heavily travelled corridor, I believe the fourth busiest in the nation. We have the following flights:

BOS-LGA:
DL: 17x (733, 738)
US: 16x (319)
AA: 11x (ER3)

BOS-EWR:
CO: 12x (733, 735, 73G, 738)
DL: 4x (FRJ)
AA: 5x (ER3)

BOS-JFK:
DL: 6x (FRJ, CRJ)
AA: 9x (ER3)

For San Jose Mineta International (SJC), the biggest O & D markets are the southern California airports (BUR, LAX, SNA and SAN), thanks to the the strong presence of WN at SJC. LAS is only somewhat lesser O & D market, thanks to the presence of WN, AA and HP flying this route.

I guess that would be LHR for BRU.
Other big markets are probaply MAD, BCN, FCO.
For intercontinental traffic it could be NYC, FIH and TLV.

For YOW 1st would definitely be YYZ.
2nd is YVR, 3rd is YYC, unless YHZ at 4th has surpassed it in the past couple of years. 5th is likely LHR, 6th probably YWG, 7th probably YEG, 8th likely NYC, 9th could by YHM and 10th probably IAD. YFB must be pretty high up there too. Statistics Canada used to be good at publishing these figures, now they stink at it.
