Personally I like CLT. It does not have as many delays as PHL, I like all the rocking chairs, the Grand Piano is entertaining, and it has a Pizza Hut.

I prefer Charlotte by far. I used to live there, my dad is based there & still lives in the area, the new Concourses D & E are great, and everything is really nice! Plus, CLT has the most daily flights  Smile.

Gotta go with CLT. Unless your idea of fun is sitting on a taxiway for an hour, then we can do PHL for you.

I like them both...PHL for the airport & variety of planes you can see, CLT because it's easy to get around & not really as spread out as PHL.

Cody- PHL has rocking chairs between Concourses B & C.

What are US Airway's largest hubs in terms of daily mainline departures?

I haven't been to PHL since they've finished remodeling so I'm not really able to compare... but I'll say Charlotte anyway! I mean they have rocking chairs! And they were the first airport to have Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

By mainline departures for US CLT has the most followed by PHL and then PIT.

CLT has around 250 daily departures, PHL has 202, and PIT has 136

Personally i prefer PHL, i've never had a real long delay and like the variety of stores and resturants. PHL also has rocking chairs at a huge window that looks out over the US terminals. I Also like the variety of planes you can see in PHL, far more than in CLT.

What are you talking about? Dunkin Donuts beats Krispy Kreme 3 to 1.
I've heard that PHL has a huge shopping mall...is that true?

A vote for CLT here..I believe PHL has a "shopping mall" near the new International concourse..I seem to recall passing it on the loooong walk from
"C" to "A".

I like CLT because it is easy to get around, Krispy Kreme donuts! and their
food court. I like the watering holes as well..

Plus, I'm a southern boy at heart, and I feel more comfortable there, for some
reason.

CLT gets my vote. Easier to get around, not that crowded, and you don't have the sensation you're in a huuuuge airport, but still it's big enough and very functional and efficient.

CLT is by far the better hub....it's such a nice terminal, with a lot of great food options...and don't forget those Krispy Kreme's. US Airways should really be proud of the CLT hub, it's ease of connnection, and pleasant environment make it a 1st Class airport.

I think PIT is the best US hub by far. Clean, Simple, greatest variety of stores, and good service (although less extensive). If I ever have a choice I'll almost always go through PIT. I can't even see how the others compare.

I've never been thru PHL, but CLT is hard to beat. As mentioned, those rocking chairs are a great way to pass time between flights and people watch.

CLT by far! PHL I find is cramped with narrow corridors and low ceilings make it seem much more crowded even when it is not. Tho like many others PIT is my favorite hub by far.

CLT! Everytime I've passed through PHL there's mobs of people everywhere and the distance between concourses can be a bit much.

I had a long layover in CLT and couldn't have been happier. The atmosphere was light (even though it was foggy that day) and airy. The food selections were great, and the airport never felt crowded even though there were planes everywhere. Also, I don't really see how you can see more at PHL than at CLT. The only thing one wouldn't see would be the BA, AF, and LH planes. Otherwise, I saw virtually every type of US plane, and quite a few for other airlines as well.

My vote definitely goes to Charlotte.

I like the stock car themed restaurant/bar in the C concourse..though sometimes service can be a little slow.

PHL does have a rather large mall between terminals B and C. It includes a Gap, Brooks Brothers, Fridays Restuarant, and about 15 other stores as well as a large food court with about 6 food vendors.

LH423: you see a lot more variety of planes in PHL than in CLT. CLT you mainly get RJ's from the other major airlines. Here in PHL we get Delta 752's, 738's, 763's; United 752's, 320's, AA 752's, 738's, Airtran 717's, Midwest DC9's; UPS 747's, A300's, 763's, DC-8's; Jazz CRJ's; USA 3000 A320s; Air Jamaica 321's. As well as British Airways 744's, 777's; Air France 330's; Lufthansa 330's and 763's.

Charlotte is a nice airport and great place to spot! The aircraft variety is not bad but the airlines are limited to major US carriers. The only international carrier at CLT is Air Canada since British Airways left last year.

Back to topic, I would say CLT makes a nice hub for US Airways.

James

PS: If you like to spot A32X and B737 classics, Charlotte is a good place to go  Big grin

Neither.

PIT beats both PHL and CLT (and most other hubs worldwide) by far. Of the two mentioned CLT is much nicer than PHL.

CLT by far. I made a connection in PHL a couple weeks ago and it was terrible. We boarded on time but left an hour and 20 minutes late. The airport is a dump also, very dirty and worn out. CLT is very modern and always clean. Even at peak times when it's very busy there are only minor traffic delays thanks to a much better runway set up.

Hard for me to comment on CLT since i only connected there once, but i had a terrible time. First the terminal i thought was rather dirty, with old carpets that were ripped up in some places and very few places to just grab a snack without walking real far. Second they decided to split the 762 into two flights, which i understood. However, 1 1/2 hours after the flight was supposed to depart a small 319 finally showed up at the gate. We were told the 319 had to be towed from the hanger, which apparently took 90mins to do. After loading the plane which was overbooked, we finally arrived in PHL probably 2-2 1/2 hours late.

Usairways85: You forgot Air Jam.  Big grin

But, I have to disagree with you on your comments about how the terminal was dirty and having to walk far for a snack. I was there in February and I found the terminal to be clean and concessions fairly accessible. Of course the main shopping and eating area was at the end of all the concourses, which if coming in at the end of a concourse it can be far. Also, as for your complaints about the delayed flight, that's US and can't reflect at all on CLT.

well see the thing was up until the day of departure the flight was a 762 departing at 9pm. However that morning or maybe a day or two in advance US added an extra flight departing at 815pm with a 320 and then downgraded the original flight to a 319departing at 9pm. So it wasn't like the aircraft change was a spare of the moment thing, it was known at least a day in advance.

I understand that aircraft changes may cause some delays. However when the plane was sitting on the ground in CLT for the entire time and was finally towed over 90mins later, i dont know if that's entirely US. If the plane was coming from another flight then i can understand, but it wasn't.
