When Did US Start PHL-FCO?

Tue Jul 22, 2003 3:33 am

As stated in the title, when, and was it ever operated by a 767-200 ER? Can anybody tell me how this flight has performed?

It looks like PHL-FCO began in 1996 (usairways.com) with a 767-200ER.

Dunno when it started, but it's in the 4/97 timetable.

This flight (#2/#3) was operated by the 767-200 until late 2000, when the A330 was introduced on the route.

Just curious, why the interest in PHL-FCO (it's the only flight between my 2 fav places)?

I just heard somewhere that US 767-200 ER have lower MTOW than normal 762er and that they're advertised as having only slightly more than 4,000nm range. I was skeptical so l wanted to see if they had ever been operated on US Airways longest transatlantic route which they do.

That makes sense. From what I understand, the US 762 occassionally stopped to refuel on the way to FCO. I'm not sure where they stopped, however.

The PHL-CO / LIRF), Italy">FCO route was launched in 1995 or 1996. I flew DL from JFK to CO / LIRF), Italy">FCO in July 1996 and saw the US 767-200ER there, parked next to my plane. The route is currently the longest in the US Airways system. In 2000, it was upgraded to an A330-300.

767-200ER service to Rome is not uncommon. TWA operated a 762 to CO / LIRF), Italy">FCO in its latter years from JFK, CO flies one from EWR during the winter season, and
Pan Am operated an A310-300 on the route during the off-peak occasionally in the 1980's.
