Blast From The Past

Thu Jul 24, 2003 10:41 am

Hi All,
I was wondering..Which retired airliner would you like brought back, and with which airline livery?

My personal favorite: L-1011 Tristar in the old British Airways colors.

I agree with you about the L1011 but I think the last TWA livery on that plane was spectacular!

Yeah the final TWA scheme was the best and reflected just how far they came and survived right up to the end.

I must admit I loved the Tristar in BA colours (though only flew on her once: LHR-CDG and back). Sv7887 has already beaten me to that one, so my vote is going to the BD Viscount - first airliner I remember flying on (though not my first!!)

I'd like to see the MD-80 back in TWA's latest colors. I also wouldn't mind the L-1011 back in TWA's latest as well.

When VARIG received its first L188A it was put in the POA-CGH-GIG-BEL-POS-MIA-NYC route replacing L 1049Gs, later they became the backbone of the VARIG fleet linking all the main Brazilian airports, they were also the standard equipment for the RG/TP pool service called "The Friendship Flight" between Rio and Lisbon with stops in Recife and Ilha do Sal.
In their final years they were the workhorse of the Shuttle Service between CHG and SDU until replaced by 733s in the early 80s.
I can't think of a more versatile plane ! On top they were very comfortable with very wide seats, 36in legroom and a u-shaped lounge in the rear.

I'd love to have the AA 727's back, as well as the DC-10's. I miss seeing those at DFW. I'd also like to have back the EA L-1011's, but at this point, I'd like to see the entire EA fleet back ... I miss that airline. Maybe it's karmic that the most traveled airline in the free world was laid to rest just as its non-free-world competitor was being broken up.

It was always nice to see a big DC-10 parked next to I-494. I wonder what these would have looked like in new colors... I used to see these all the time at MSP. Now NWA's 10's are diminishing too.

Nothing smoked like a 727 at MSP (Keep in mind I am only 19). Now the only 727's coming in here are the Champion Air ones most of the time. Even though some of them are old NWA birds, they don't look nearly as nice as they had before.
