USAirways & 757/767's

Is USAirways getting rid of their 757's for the A321? What about the 767's now that they have A330's?
I thought I saw a 757 on approach to SEA the other day. It was far away, so it's possible it was a UA 757, but I think it was USAirways.

The 757/767's are still around and won't start to be replaced with A321's and A330-200's until 2007.

I heard that the 767-200s are apparently gone by 2007, replaced by A330-200s, as Ryefly mentioned. I don't know about the 757s...two were stored out West, but I don't know if any more have been parked or if the two I mentioned are back in service.

it is my understanding, although this is speculative like the above comments, that us airways will use the 757/767 for higher density routes here in the u.s., and replace them later this decade. i recently flew phl-mco on a 767, and was pleasantly suprised how packed the flight was, as delta is the big boy on that block. i also flew us airways phl-las and was pleased to see the 757s packed as well.

it would be nice to see us airways recondition the interiors of their 767s and use them for transcontinental service. us airways holds a special place in the hearts of many easterners, and many would fly us airways nonstops to the west if the flights were aboard nice comfortable planes. i know this is what the new buses are for, but the 767 would be a great addition.

I cringe whenever I hear that a 757 is being replaced by an A321... Airbus makes a fine product and all but the 757 is a superior plane (IMHO) and I hope US Air reconsiders. I like US Air's A321 (my one and only photo in the database is of that plane) but it's no 757.

As far as the 767 v A330...I'll take the A330. USAir's Envoy on the 330 is very nice indeed.

US Airways ordered 10 A330-200's which will replace the 767's operating on routes to Europe (Amsterdam, London/Gatwick, Munich, Shannon, Dublin, Frankfurt), basically routes that are not now flown with the 9 A330-300's in service with US Airways.

The 757's are a mix of factory fresh planes delivered in the early to mid-90's and some vintage, first generation 57's that were once operated by carriers that include Eastern. The oldest ones will probably go, but for now, the others will stay. They fit well into the fleet and are used for high density routes.

I am not a huge fan of Airbus, but I keep hearing that the new A330's are quite grand. My two favorite A/C happen to be the 757/767. I hope US AIRWAYS takes another look around before storing the A/C.

Then I think about how old they are. Some of the 757's US have are from Eastern back in the Early 80's! Some of there 767's are from Piedmont!

I agree that the 757 and 767 fleet needs refurbishing inside and out, if they are going to be in the fleet for another 5+ years. Almost all of both types have pealing paint or dull exteriors. They could also use new seat covers and new carpeting and a good scrub down on everything else. Does anyone know if there is any plans on doing this?

I thought I read somewhere that US Airways was planning on reducing the first class cabin from 24 seats down to 12 for the 757 since the plane will be mainly used for low yield high capacity markets. Have they started doing this, or was it just a rumor?

The 757s will soon have only 8 FC seats and ??? coach seats. They will be placed on Florida runs, Vegas, etc. As has been stated, the 767s will be replaced in 2007-2009 with the 332s that are now on order. Now in the near term, US is suppsoedly looking at ways to acquire some 330s quicker. Swiss is going to be selling 4 A330s this year that have a very good chance showing up in the S

I hope they go all Airbus I really don't want to have to fly an other boeing in my life.
Whoever wrote that the 757 is superior to the A321 is like saying that a chevy is better than an Acura, you don't know what you are talking about.

I have travel on both a 757 and a A321, the only thing that make the A321 better is it's cabin width. The 757 is more powerful has a smoother ride more wheels. The A321 may have a wider cabin but a 757 has wide body quality.

I don't like flying on Scarebus. They all seem bumpy and underpowered to me. I am afraid we are going to fall out of the sky when I flew an Airbus. When I flew NW on routes that used the A320 and 757, I would make sure I had a flight with a 757.

On the other hand, what about USAirways domestic 767 routes? They fly in one daily from CLT and one from PHL at MCO. Are they going to be replaced by the A330-200 too?

During my 4-5 months in PHL I noticed that US' 767s were in very bad shape in terms of the looks. Whoever did the repainting jobs on those 767s and 737s they screw the airline very bad as the paints are peeling off pretty bad.

I don't know anything about the cycles and hours on those 767s but they are becoming outliers in the fleet. Let us not forget that US used to use these birds in some domestic routes in early 90s. So, I wouldn't be surprised if they had high cycles.

Will US Airways get rid of the 757 and 767 in favour of the 321 and 332 one day? The answer is an obvious yes. By the end of the decade, US will have very few Boeings around, and they will be on their way out. Airbus will be making up most of the US fleet, with Embraers supplementing the A319/A320/A321/A330 (I think we might see US order some EMB-190 to go with the EMB-170).

Quite frankly, I'd rather see US 762's flying transatlantic than A330's. Nowadays, it's not very common to see 762's flying across the Atlantic. They're mostly either 763's or other aircraft. US is very unique because it only operates the -200 derivative of the fantastic 767. We all know A330's will be around for years to come. But besides CO 762's, most -200's are getting old and will find themselves retired within the next 10 years.

Now I am a Boeing fan, but if I was to fly across the Atlantic and I had to choose between a 767 and a A330 I choose a A330. An A330 is wider and longer than the 767 with better wing spanned and more powerful engines. A A330 is faster also. Now I am a Boeing fan but I believe in giving credit where credit due.

PS, this why I hope Boeing build the 7E7.

I am the one who said I think the 757 is a superior plane to the A321. I also added "IMHO". I you are a pilot for US Air then I, as a *very* frequent customer of US Air (CP three years in a row), am telling you that I like the 757 better than the A321. As far as a Chevy being superior to an Acura, you're right...the Corvette is superior to the Acura... LOL
