How Many Airlines Operated 747, 757 And L1011

Wed Aug 20, 2003 2:44 am

I wonder many airlines has operated 747, 757 and L1011 tristars. I know a lot of airline that operate l1011s operates 757s and since 747 are from the same generation as a l1011 it would be interesting to have a fleet that has all three. I know Eastern at one time or another has operated all three also BA has operated all three even Delta has all three at one time or another.

Delta too, though they operated the 747 for only a short period and AFAIK not at the same time as the L1011 and 757.
I wish I were flying

Saudia did until a few years ago, if you count the medical 757 they operate for the saudi royal family as well.

This has the history of the UA fleet from 1970-89.

Interestingly, they were also using DC-10-30 at the same time also...

The 752 was introduced in 1989 though, so I'm not sure if it was being used along with the L1011

Iberia!!
They operated the L1011 only for a short period during 1997 and 1998, so they had the B747, B757 and L1011 in the fleet at the same time!!

United's L1011's came with PA's 747SP's , and the Pacific routes and the LHR slots, but didn't stay long in the fleet. -SP's stayed until '94.

Interesting that UA says that their DC10-10s held only 250 people. UA Flight 232 had 298 people on board when it crashed..  Insane

Now this one is a big surprise . . . the next airline to fly into this category will be Orient Thai Airlines.

It currently operates five B747 Classics, a TriStar and will be taking a bunch of Boeing 757s to commence lower-cost operation within Thailand in December 2003.

Note however that the lower-cost operation may be given a different name . . . rumour has it as "Orient Express".

I think United operated the 757 when they still had the L1011 and of course the 747.

Eastern- although the 747s existed with the L1011s briefly, and later the 757s existed with the L1011s (which also there were A300s and DC-10-30s in the fleet)

If I am not mistaken- Didn't Delta have a couple DC-10s leased from United while they were waiting delivery for the L1011 in the 70s, plus they were flying the 747?

Then of course in the late 80s after the merger with Western Delta had a few DC-10s mixed in their fleet of L1011s and 767s.

Did Delta still have the DC-10s from Western when they got the Pan Am A310s and the MD-11s?
