Lowest Price You Have Paid For A Revenue Ticket...

Wed Aug 20, 2003 1:26 pm

Ok, there was a thread on the highest price. What about the lowest?

Criteria:

1) Can't be a non-rev ticket
2) Can't be a ticket discounted with vouchers or credits
3) Can't be a FF ticket
4) CAN be a fare glitch

For me, it must have been the $19 BOS-EWR fare I paid on New York Air years ago.

More recently, and on a longer journey, it was the $119 I paid for LAX-ORD-GRR-ORD-LAX (no sat night stay) on UA.

I paid $139 r/t for EWR-SNA on Delta in Oct 2002. A LOT of the people on the flight got that fare too (it was all the buzz in coach: "did YOU pay $140??"). I had friends get the same fare for LAX-EWR, EWR-SBA, EWR-SJC, and SNA-EWR. So I think it was a weird EWR only fare to or from various west coast cities. Needless to say, as soon as I saw it, I called every bi-coastal type person I know.

In the 70's WN was $19 OKC-DAL all the time $38rt
In the early 90's WN had a $25 per leg sale. OKC-STL, STL-IND and back $100rt we got to fly WN a lot.
We also flew a lot of hidden cities in the 90's when airlines were in the business of selling and taking tickets and not names, baggage did not have to line up. One trip I remember in particular was OKC-DFW-Austin,TX and MSY-DFW-ONT. We would use the OKC-DFW part of the one ticket $49rt and the DFW-ONT part of the MSY ticket $100rt ie $149rt from OKC-DFW-ONT.

$189 round trip from LAX to the Boston area...can't remember if it was BOS or MHT. I'm not sure what airline it was...but I think it was Frontier, which would make it LAX-DEN-BOS. Sadly, I don't believe they fly into Boston anymore. I haven't flown it, but WN has (or used to have) LAX-LAS for $19, and LAX-Bay Area (either OAK or SFO, can't remember which) for $29 I believe.

That would be the $13.90 I paid for a roundtrip SEA-YVR-SEA standby flight on UA in 1974. Hard to believe isn't it. I had 8 hours in SEA and was bored.

Since the advent of low cost flying in Germany, one regularily gets to fly around Europe for 38 Euro rt including all taxes. Thanks to this I've been to TXL and CDG so far. Also, this year's Christmas shopping will be conducted in Milan, because flying there is just a as expensive as getting a weekend ticket for our regional train network.  Big thumbs up

The only cheaper flights I have taken so far are a couple of DUS-MUC-DUS round trips on DBA last year - they were just 25 Euro return.  Smile

Cheapest INt'l Jet flight was in Dec last year, Frankfurt to London Rountrip for $98 on BA

Prop service was 45$ on Tropic Air from Belize City to Tikal, Guat.

CHeapest in the US, $60 MAF-DAL rountrip on WN, and $59 IAH-OKC on CO

As a sidenote,
The cheapest fare I ever saw on one of my government tickets was $209 one way from Frankfurt-Chicago-Oklahoam City, that was also last Dec.

It's very easy to get CRL-STN-CRL return on FR for 35 euros (all taxes + credit card fees included). I've flown the route many times and amost never paid more.

I also flew CRL-DUB-CRL and CRL-STN-TSF-CRL for ridiculously low prices on FR.

Low cost: EDI-DUB-EDI for about €35 on FR

Full-service: BRU-LHR-BRU + LHR-EDI-LHR + EDI-MAN-EDI on BA: all three between €93 and €98 return (why fly low cost in the UK?).

Back in Jan. 2000:
ATL-PHL-MAD-BCN-MAD-CLT-ATL -- $ 274 on US Airways.
The MAD-CLT segment was a reroute due to heavy snow at PHL.

Two weekends ago I paid 91.50 to fly PHL-BOS on US.

It was great: The cheapest way to check out a new city (BOS), check out a new airport, and then get to fly on another airplane (752).

The lowest fare was with American Airlines from BDL to MSY. This was back in August 2001, 2 weeks before 9/11. I paid 90USD r/t. I remember AA was offering the same fare for that time from BDL to MCO. Too bad I did not go there.

I paid 40 GBP in July for LGW to MAN and return. Flights were both at around noon (outbound on a Tuesday; return on a Thursday of the same week).

Could not believe how great the fare was.

$38 Rountrip on Southwest:

HOU-HRL-HOU in 1989.

Great ride on a WN's Flight 1 on the way down (732) and then my first 737-300 on the way back! N300SW Spirit of Kitty Hawk brought us home.

I got a $39 PIT-MDW r/t (after taxes and whatnot) on Vanguard about 4 years ago. Boy, was it worth every penny of it. I did get the priveledge of spending 14 hours stranded in the old MDW due to snow. Every other airline got ops up and running after about 2 or 3 hours, but not NJ.

Mine was a special offer from Ryanair when Germanwings made the €1 offer last November.

HHN-BGY:

Ticket: € 0.50
Taxes: included in the ticket (like if they paid me for flying Big thumbs up)
Booking Fee: € 5.00

Total cost including everything: € 5.50 (USD 6.12)

that's a good deal Big thumbs up

Shortly after Sept. 11, I purchased a ticket on AA round-trip from AUS to BWI for $111. I had a $100 voucher that reduced the price to $11 for me, but the $111 by itself was amazing!

3€ for CGN-CDG-CGN 1€/flight plus 3€ credit card fee and since we flew with three people the 9€ split down to 3€/person.
5€ for CGN-ZRH-CGN (didn't use it though since there was too much snow on the way to the airport) Again 1€/flight plus 3€ fees.
Both with Germanwings.
