Largest Airliner You've Flown On Is.............

Sat Aug 23, 2003 7:38 am

Sadly, the largest for me is the Boeing 767-300ER (Delta Airlines SFO-ATL). Not saying I dislike the 767, cuz its a great plane, but the fact that its not one of the biggest. After that, the next biggest I've been on was the 757-300. I REALLY need to get on some big widebody jets. Especially the 747!

Boeing 747-400 on Virgin and a Boeing 777 on Korean Air.
DC-10, L-1011, A-330 are also in the mix.

RE: Largest Airliner You've Flown On Is.............

Sat Aug 23, 2003 8:57 am

I've flown or flown on every original CO 747-124, most of the secondhand 747-100/200s we picked up over the years, every original CO DC-10-10 and DC-10-30, most of the secondhand DC-10's, all but 1 of the 777s (ship 017 is the only one I've missed), all the 767s, and just about all of the old A300s.

As far as other airlines, I've flown UA 747-100/200/400, DC-10-10, 777-200; NW 747-100/400, DC-10-30, DC-10-40; DL L-1011-1/250/500, MD-11, DC-10-30, 747-100, 767-200/300/400; AA 747-100/SP, DC-10-10, 767-200; US A330-300; BA 747-200/400, DC-10-30; AF 747-200, A340-300; LH 747-200; AZ 747-200, 767-300; KL MD-11, 747-200SUD; VS 747-200/400; AC 747-100; BN 747-100/SP; NA 747-100; EA L-1011-50; TW 747-100/200, L-1011, 767-300; PA 747-100/200, DC-10-10, L-1011, A310; QF 747SP; JL 747-100/SR/400, 777-200; SQ 747-200, A310-300, 777-300; TG 747-400; SK 747-100, DC-10-30; HA L-1011, DC-10-30.

Many trips, especially on some of the now-defunct airlines or classic widebodies, were made specifically to get on that type of plane. I don't do it much anymore, but I try to take advantage of pass travel whenever I can!

Commercially the largest would be a Lufthansa 747-200 from ORD-FRA and vice versa.

Military wise the C-5 and KC-135.

KLM 747-306 PH-BUU. Also 747-100s and -200s of IB, NW and TW; although these have the same overall dimesions as the -300 and some -200s have MTOW equal to the -300, I consider 747-100/-200 to be smaller inasmuch as their potential seating capacity is less.

Hmmm.
Okay, how about:

UA DC10-10 IAD-DEN
UA 777-200 IAD-DEN

CO 767-200 IAH-LAX
CO 767-400 SFO-IAH
CO 777-200 LAX-IAH

KL 747-300 DTW-AMS

NW DC10-30 MSP-ANC-MSP + MSP-SEA-MSP
NW DC10-40 LAX-MSP-MSP
NW 747-200 AMS-DTW

The NW 747 is a funny story. This was early August, 2000. The plane was scheduled to depart AMS at 4pm but was overbooked. The nice people at Schipol pulled everyone with frequent-flyer tickets and non-revenues off the plane to seat the overbooks, then tried to re-accommodate us with those seats left over. When they got to me and three other people who appeared to have Brathaans ticket holders, the only seats left on the plane were in row 87. The four of us trudged to the rear of coach and found no seats. A kindly flight attendant looked at our boarding passes and determined that our seats were "upstairs." Upstairs turned out to be first class. It was an unintentional and unexpected instant upgrade.  Big thumbs up

Very fond memories of all of the widebody experiences I've had ...

TW 741 (probably) - from JFK to LHR (or LGW) when I was 2 in 1980
AA D10-30: ORD to BRU
UA 742: SFO-HNL-AA), New Zealand">AKL
UA 744: SFO-SEL - I remember Kimpo had no AC in early August
CO A300: DEN-LAX
UA D10-30: DEN-SFO, SEL to MNL - landed during a typhoon!
UA 763: DEN-SFO
UA 772: ORD-DEN, SFO-DEN (the latter didn't have ptvs!  Sad )
DL 764: SLC-LAX-HNL (my honeymoon  Smile )
DL 762: SLC-DEN
BA 744: DEN-LHR
BA 772ER: LHR-DEN - most recent

Bummed I've never flown in a 747SP or a tristar
Next big plane I hope to fly in is a A340-600!!

My first flight was on the biggest airliner I ever flown an AA DC10. I have flown on AA DC10 more than any jetliner. Each flight was ether to DFW or ORD. I travel on a DL L1011 Tristar from DFW to LAX in 1985 that was the only time I ever got a chance to fly on a Tristar.
