Airlines: Which Haven't You Flown On But Want To?

Sat Sep 06, 2003 9:40 pm

Which airlines have you not yet flown aboard but definitely want to? I like the rare, barely known carriers, especially those which operate unusual Soviet-built aircraft. For example, I'd love to fly aboard a Belavia AN24 from Minsk to SVO or either Krasair or Kavminvodyavia from SVO to Sochi. I am neither strange nor suicidal, but rather adventurous and curious.

Call me strange or backwards, but I regret not taking more flights on commuter turboprop aircraft. Just something about them gives the flights character. Or maybe it is because those a/c tend to be equated with the smaller, "hometown" type airports that always seem more cozy.

I have flown on the following:

Continental Express ATR-42 (PHL-EWR)
" " EMB-120 Brasilia (PHL-EWR)

American Eagle SAAB 340 (LAX-FAT)

United Express EMB-120 Brasilia (SFO-FAT, LAX-ONT)

I would've loved to fly on any or all of those types in and out of all the small airports in the Midwest and Northeast.

sadly, time, and the expense made it prohibitive.

Nothing "crazy" about that! I've flown SU four times to date, and whilst the service was just OK, it was good for the price! Aircraft: A310x2/B772/IL-96.

I flew on Aeroflot once - ONCE, Jonny ! MLA-LAD-JNB, on an IL-62M, not exactly scary but not a lot of fun either.

I'd love to fly on Thai (service), JAL (service, also to go to Japan), Daalo Airlines (IL-18's, cool !), Canadian North (excellent destinations), Air Koryo (creepy-value), Iraqi Airways (solidarity), Ariana Afghan (ditto).

Hey!

About a year ago, when planning my trip to Poland, I wanted to choose an airline that I have not yet flown, and Air France, Finnair and Iberia were among my options, I even considered Air India ( Please let me explain, Air India only to see what the people are complaining about, I don't feel any sympathy for that airline, and yeah ... the price is half as much as , say KLM, for example, another airline that I considered). But, the freakiest of 'em all was Aeroflot. The moment I thought about flying with them, I realized that I have to experience Aeroflot, especially the Tu-154, which serves the SVO-WAW-SVO route, along with the 737-400 (what's the fun of flying the 734, right ?!? I mean who has not flown the 737-400?!?) So I opted for the connection in Moscow, but when the lady at the call centre told me that I would have to spend the night in Moscow, because the connecting flights simply don't meet up in time I turned the offer down. And yes, I did call other airlines, I even made a reservation with Air France, but I ended up staying here for the holidays. However, next year is summer again ... Until then, Aeroflot  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I'd like to try out as many airliens as possible, and don't have any specific favorite. However, during business trips my choice is limited to the airlines serving my destination in the quickest and easist way, and when I am travelling privately, I usually limit my selection to the airlines where I am member of the FFP or which offer the absolut best deal for my purposes.

I guess if I'd be a millionaire, I'd really go out and "score" as many different airlines as possible. Big grin
