Longest time in the air was 13h30min from YVR on CX889. Longest time on board was 20h45min JFK-HKG (via YVR.) Nobody was allowed off at YVR. 20 extra minutes on the ground at YVR because of weather, and we were put in a holding pattern over HKG. A VERY long flight, even in Business.

I did DAC-SIN-NRT-LAX with less than 1 hour and thirty minutes ground time per stop. The total flight time was about 24:02 hours.

Ive also had a fiasco of an experience with Biman which included two diversions, and an aircraft change which split up the passengers of the DC-10 into F-28s and which also meant that I was "demoted" to Economy. KTM-DAC should have lasted about an hour and ten minutes but ended up taking 23 hours.

Longest non-stops I have done are:

Philippine Airlines
PR 103 (B747-400) LAX-MNL: 14:32 hours in the air plus an additional 55 minute wait at LAX for late passengers, loading/unloading of baggage, and queing for take off. Do not ever do this flight...it was horrible. Absolutely full, no space, hardly any entertainment! The flight seemed to drag on forever.

Singapore Airlines
SQ 029 (B747-400) LAX-TPE: 13:58 hours in the air with an additonal 30 minutes on the ground at LAX. There was bad headwind which meant a longer flight. The flight was absolutely full except for the two seats next to me. I was sick and I advised SQ earlier that I would be flying with them. Upon arrival at LAX, I had an escort to the gate (which meant skipping all the security lines and going through the crew line instead), and Silver Kris lounge acsess at both LAX and TPE.

Cathay Pacific
CX 255 (B747-400) HKG-LHR: 12:46 hours plus additional 45 minutes of circling around London. The flight had a load of 102 people so it was not too bad.

United
UA 950 (B777-200) LAX-LHR: 12:01 hours; mainly due to a longer air route to avoid bad weather in the central/upper mid west. What a horrible flight that was!

35 years ago, flying from DUR to GVA, I remember the flight portion JNB-LAD-LIS-ROM in a 707 of South African Airways, same airplane. Due to the apartheid politic of the South African government at that time, SAA was not allowed to overfly most of the African countries and had, between LAD and LIS, to fly around the western part of Africa over the Atlantic Ocean. This flight took much time. The removal of apartheid has cut short many distances, even for SAA . Kind regards. Kilavoud.

I'm sure I can't compare to the rest of you, as my flying experience has been more limited to domestic flying.

But my longest flights were the 2 transatlantic legs of my UK trip, ORD-LHR-ORD, about 8 hours each on UAL 772's. The trip as a whole was (YVR-ORD-LHR-MAN-LHR-ORD-YVR), (727, 772, 733, 733, 777, Super 80).

Mine are:

-MEX-FRA/AMS on LH and KL
Took us close to 11 hours.

-FRA-MEX on LH
12 hours.

-ZRH-ATL on SR (120)
Took us 10 hours and 30 minutes. We had to take another route, due to bad weather over the North Atlantic.

My longest day was in January, 1998.

CNS-SYD-LAX-DEN-DSM

Left Cairns on a QF 763, arrived in SYD, layed over for 5 hours. Boarded the flight for LAX, flight time was 14h 10m, had to transfer to domestic UA terminal in LAX, 2.5 hour flight to Denver, lay over for 2 hours, 1.5 hour flight to Des Moines. I was very near to killing someone with my bare hands. My stopwatch from door to door was 34hours, 18minutes, 22 seconds.

Northwest's seasonal Detroit-Anchorage 757-200 service feels like the world's longest 757 flight at 6 1/4 hours. Actually, I believe the longest 757 route was TACV's New York-Cape Verde (Africa) service, replaced earlier this year with a leased L-15 aircraft.

Btw, in the first photo below, notice the Illyushin-62 on the ground at Ted Stevens International Airport.

Longest nonstop: Los Angeles - Auckland on Air New Zealand (NZ001) aircraft was ZK-NBW and flyinmg time 12 hours 40 minutes

Longest flight: London - Auckland on NZ001 (same airline and aircraft), 12 hours 40 min + 11 hours (10 hours if you exclude the time it took between push back and leaving LHR) total flying time 23 hours 40 minutes.

Longest trip: Amsterdam - Sydney (via London and Auckland) total "flying" time around 29 hours and 10 hours in transit makes 39 hours. This trip was only 6 hours longer than my previous record (33 hours travelling from Amsterdam via Paris, Sao Paulo and Recife to Belem).

Longest charter flight: "only" 4 hours 30 min to Tenerife, Las Palmas and Antalya

my longest flight was san francisco-shanghai (pudong) at about 15 and a half hours westbound on ual. it was horrible. service was no good, but it was nonstop from the states and the cheapest by far.

my longest trip, however, was newark-san francisco-shanghai-xian-lhasa tibet. it was so many hours i can't count that high.

ATL-FCO and back in January on a Delta MD-11, blocked at about 11.5 hours westbound. We sat on the tarmac at FCO for about 45 minutes while the crew "restarted the navigation systems" before getting underway. The MD-11 was okay, but I prefer the 777 hands-down. I kept hoping for an equipment switch, but no such luck.

I've also done SEA-LHR and back on two occasions with British, on 742s and 744s, taking about 10 hours. On my most recent westbound leg, I was bumped to Club World (with folding beds). That flight went by too quickly for me!

NONSTOP...
LHR-LAX 4/30/96
UA 767-300ER Connoisseur Class, seat 6A.
11 hours, 15 mins.

(Service was excellent, but I started feeling ill and claustrophobic over Montana/Wyoming, and was ready to jump out over Utah!
Won't ever fly that route again, I always fly from the west coast to Europe via IAD (my favorite airport) to break up the trip.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
LONGEST FLIGHT (with stops)
SEA-SFO-LAX-HNL-SYD-MEL 12/15/87

(I was flying as part of a scout troop to a worldwide scouting jamboree south of Sydney in Jan. 1988, cheapest way down was the "milk run" option. Oh...did I mention we started out in PDX that morning and took a 3 hour bus ride to SEA first?!) All told, including bus trip, 23 hours in transit, and that does not include layovers!! Ugghhhh...but memorable! Looking back over 30 years of flying now, the only time I required the airsickness bag was 3 hours out of SYD...and there wasn't even any turbulence!)

*The flights between SEA and LAX were my first and only time on AA, the flights to Aussie were my first and only on Qantas. Also, the LAX-HNL was the first time riding on the upper deck of a 747, which in that case was a 747-200Combi. Later during the trip, I flew Continental from MEL-AA), New Zealand">AKL, and then AA), New Zealand">AKL-SYD. First and only time on CO, also.

Hey.

The longest nonstop flight I have been on was probably LAX-TPE-HKG on a Cathay Pacific B744 back in December of 1993. The trip was so long, the airplane had to make a fuel stop in Taipei!

Wow, this is a LONG thread; just wondering, after these threads get these long, does anybody actually read them? Or do people just scroll down and post and that's that...it'd take way too long to look at all these posts. Oh well, guess I'll throw in my two bits anyway:

Longest-flight:

ORD-FIU (Rome) on Alitalia 763; roughly 9hrs.
