Chicago Cubs-What airlines do they and other teams use?

Mon Sep 29, 2003 5:32 am

That being said, does anybody know who they will travel on to ATL?
When they head down south to take on the braves?
I know the BEARS use United, what about the Cubs?

YX is the airline that charters for the cubs. They switched this year, after several players (including sammy) had reservations about the safety of NWA.

They'll be taking a chartered YX MD-80, most likely out of ORD.

JPE,
They questioned the safety of NWA? That is funny.

I thought I saw one time on tv that the Cubs use a charter company called Sporthawk.

YX carried the Cubs on their PIT-CVG road trip but I believe the Cubs actually took DL to ATL. A friend saw some news footage of their departure and they showed a DL jet taking them. YX did not have a charter on our schedule for ORD-ATL for this trip. Due to aircraft availability and scheduling problems there may be a couple of trips YX did not do, in which case you might have seen Sporthawk carry them or someone else. YX has run the majority of the Cubs schedule though, as well as the full schedule for the Brewers and the KC Royals. YX also has exclusive for the New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Milwaukee Bucks, University of Wisconsin-Badgers football, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers and the Nashville Predators.

Frontier will be chartering the Timberwolves this year, although the plane will be a Blue Moon charter A319, but all F9 personnel

Philadelphia Eagles use NW, normally a 757 but they are allowed to use a 747-200 once a year for long trips...The NHL's Florida Panthers use Miami Air...believe its a 727...The Dallas Mavericks use a 757 operated by Pace...The CU Buffs football team uses a Champion Air 727-200 I think...

And, of course, the best looking team plane out there.....the New Orleans Hornets own 727-200:

It appears both the Cubs and Braves are flying DL back to ATL tonight (Saturday) following game four which just ended 30 minutes ago. According to Flytecomm.com, two DL jets (737-800 and 767-200) arrived in ORD from ATL about 5 p.m. today and are scheduled to head back to ATL later tonight.
Go Braves!

For the charter flights that use major airlines, does any one know if those pax can earn FF miles? Further is the in-flight-experience the same? Flight attendants, the seat belt rules, and all that??

It was a bit of a surprise when I learned the Hawks and Thrashers are now using Midwest, especially since Delta is one of their sponsors. I saw one of YX's MD-80s over @ Mercury Air Center a few weeks back getting ready to take the Thrashers on a road trip.

Interesting

I got to look at Flairport's flight # for the charter @ www.seatmap.com and it gives data for it.

COOL!

I'm pretty sure ATA transports the NBA Indiana Pacers and the NFL Indianapolis Colts.

UAL 777 Contrail is probably correct on his prediction.
