What Is Your Reason For Flying A Certain Airline?

Mon Sep 29, 2003 6:49 am

Hello,
My friend Rob is flying MSP-GRR on United because of their Fisher chesse snacks. I usually fly an airline based on miles, price, or who I'm traveling with. When I went to Vegas, I chose Frontier because my hott friend Andrea was going to fly them.

i think i generally fly Delta for personal preference. FLL-ATL and ATL-LGA are both served by AirTran as well, but i just like Delta better.

I flew FLL-DFW-LAS on DL in 1994 because i had to and LAS-SFO on US because i had to and SFO-DFW-FLL on DL because i had to.

I flew AirTran ATL-MIA-ATL in 1999 because i had to
I flew Delta ATL-LGA-ATL in 1999 because i had to
I am going to fly Delta, Song AirTran, or jetBlue FLL-LGA,EWR, or JFK in March because i have to (school trip)
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

I am an infrequent pleasure flyer. I like international carriers the best, because the vacation starts the minute you check in (whereas with domestic US carriers, you might feel like you're back in school  Big grin )

Still, if I can organize a good connection from my local airport, Harrisburg MDT, that will weigh in on my choice. I will gladly consider starting from EWR or IAD, but not JFK. So for my recent trip to LIM, I chose colorless but efficient DL over the more amusing sounding, but JFK based LAN-PERU.

I've flown thousands of miles and I can tell you it's a lot safer than crossing the street!

If price is a concern and I have the time, I have no problem driving to Birmingham AL (I live in ATL) just to fly Southwest if the fare is right. (This is about a 2 hour drive.) I've done this twice, and to be honest, it's not really THAT much more time spent because the parking, check-in, security and walk-to-the-gate time at Birmingham is substantially less than ATL anyway. With that factored in, the difference is probably only an hour and 15 mins, or even less.

If I'm flying out of ATL to a market where Delta and AirTran go head-to-head, I'll choose AT because of the friendlier staff, ability to upgrade to business class for cheap, and the brand-new 717s (not in that order). Some of the Delta ships are looking pretty shabby.

Honestly, aside from having a history of SkyMiles, I see no real incentive to fly Delta.

Price, FF Miles & (with me) which plane I'm on....I'll gladly take a 757 over an MD-80 on ATL-CMH for the IFE, although as long as I'm flying, it really doesn't matter.

The main thing for me is customer service. If I have a good experience with a representative, agent, or FA then I will fly with that airline again. Price is secondary as I am a believer in the old phrase "you get what you pay for.." (yes, I know this isn't ALWAYS true  Big grin )

Have a great day!  Smile
