What is your favorite type of plane, why, and to which airline does it belong?

Boeing 707. Why: simply the best! i once flew a 707 of Egyptair, the aircraft was in a misrable condition (actually it became a frighter soon after) but the feeling was too good to be described!

from a commercial point of view, A320.

For all time, the 727-200. A work of art and the first jet aircraft I ever worked on. Access of components is not too bad but the main tires and brakes are super heavy and a royal PIA to change. No one can argue it's reliability and staying power. Time to move on. Modern day,the 767 equipped with GE CF6's. Just a nice all-around airplane, mechanic friendly and bullet-proof reliability. Availability is so good that given the schedule they cover at my airline of employ, one would never know how relativey few there are. Looks very handsome as well.

I have 2. My first is the Cathay Pacific A340. It is so majestic and very quiet. My next Fav is a bit smaller. It would be the US Airways Shuttle B-727.

I love all planes. Except the shorts skyvan. My favorite one I've been on is the DC-10 or 732. The one I want to go on most is the A340.

My favorite is the MD-80s with the Spanish domestic airline Spanair. Large seat pitch, great inflight service, awesome navy blue colors.

MD-80 NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!

To compare her with another plane is like comparing Cindy Crawfor with Barbara Streisand.

She's the best! Nothing else is even close to her beauty!
And the Pratt&Whitneys never make the thing worse...

My favorite is the A319. It is small, Quiet, and Fast. I have been on the A319 3 times, alll on United. Once on UA528 ORD-BOS, another time on UA883 EWR-ORD and once on UA118 LAX-ORD. Following that, if I were to rate planes in order, I would say
747-100
L-1011
ATR-42
767-300ER
757-200
MD-80

life wasn't worth the balance, or the crumpled paper it was written on

Finnair MD-11

Mon Jan 03, 2000 12:36 am

Hello!

I think that Finnair's MD-11s are the best. Finnair has four -11s and they all are very clean and they fly very smoothly...
In winter OH-LGC is painted in the SantaClaus livery and in summer it's painted in the Moomins livery. (Very nice, isn't it...)

Best wishes from snowy Helsinki, Finland

DC-9-21

The DC-9-21 is my favourite airplane. It's only been made 10 of them. All to SAS. SAS still have three Dc-9-21. It's my favourite because it's so...hmm...small, but still so "big". It's pretty much like the Fokker 70. I just love it.

My favorite short- and mediumhaul plane is the B 757-200.
This plane is just great. Lots of space, quiet, fast and powerful.
I was on 9 different flights operated by a 757-200 and it was great every time.

On longhaul flights I like the B 747-400 best.

Favorite: Any 747 by any airline!

Worst: MD-80, not the aircraft per say, but the way they're used by the airlines that fly them (cattle car is the only way I can describe it).

Should be obvious,
The Airbus A300-605R, leased by American Airlines
why? It paved the way for all twin wide-bodies.
Hey, it took Boeing almost 10 years to respond to
the European twin. Also, the damn plane is ALL engine!!!
See the size of those things? I think they generate
something like 60K of thrust each. Also, I often visit the
Carribean and South America, the A300 usually
takes me there.
BUT, I also love the Boeing 777.

I like the Delta MD 88's because sitting just behind the wing, you hear those engines singing such sweet music. Also, they seem to be in limited supply. I also like all 757's especially the ones with the PW 2000 engines, love that finish at the end of the reverse thrust sequence!

My favorite plane is a Boeing 757-200. It's my favorite plane because I think it is the best plane in the world. The best 757s belong to American Airlines.

60's Jet - VC-10 - Probably the last great airliner that looks 'designed'.

70's Jet - L1011 - Nothing like those big RB211's for a feeling of comfort and security.

80's Jet - B757

90's Jet - B777-300 - A plane designed with thought for pax.

747. Nothing comes near to the Jumbo Jet.

And my favourite one of them all:
Qantas 747-438, VH-OJB "Wunala Dreaming", the most beautiful livery on the most impressive airplane.

An Answer

Wed Jan 12, 2000 3:39 am

If there is one airplane that carried people in comfort, long distances, for long times, quietly, powerfully, and crashed very rarely -
it was the L1011.
Unfortunately, they are vanishing rapidly. My favorite one is the Flying Hospital, but Delta's are nice.
The L1011 had a feature, the name of which I cannot remember, which allowed it to descend without pointing its nose down when one pushes forward on the yoke. They are beautiful, they are graceful (though not quite so as a 747), they are friendly sorts of monsters, its too bad the DC-10 got therer first.

Favorite plane has to be the 717-200. It doesnt get any better than seeing a Dc9-30 on steroids, with an attitude. Clean, Quiet, Smooth, and Powerful......wow what a rush.

DC-10s Are Sleek?

Thu Jan 13, 2000 2:59 am

How on Earth can a DC-10 be sleak? With an extra engine bulging out of nowhere and a short fat fuselage sleak is the last word I'd choose for a DC-10. L1011s are nice, but not because their sleak.

OK so they wouldn't win a beauty contest but like their L-1011 cousin, (which is another nice plane), the DC-10's are a nice aircraft to look at and fly in!

It's too bad they were plagued by chronic accidents over the years including the worst crash in US history at Chicago O'Hare back in 1979.
