LH B744, FRA-BKK, four times over a total period of time of 3 weeks, I stayed not more than 48 hours on each trip, only needed my reliable Samsonites Rapsody board case...it earned me my Senator card and took some fun out of flying for me, it was just fu..ing hard work. But the deal got closed... Big grin

I try to travel with my carry-on trolley only on every trip because I made some bad experience with lost luggage and I hate it to wait for my suitcase. I had a few trips with carry-on luggage only in the last few month, for example:

  • DUS-CDG-JFK-CDG-DUS (I stayed at NYC for the weekend only)

  • DUS-FRA-SIN-FRA (I stayed at SIN for two days)

  • FRA-IAD/BOS-IAD-FRA (I stayed in the USA for 9 days)

My longest flight with ONLY CARRY-ON luggage is AMS-JFK and return.
This was in June 1997, when I got the possibility to get a arranged jumpseat in a KLM 743. We stayed over for 2 nights. So I only took a video and photo camera and some clothes.

I would be travelling to CLT for a day next week on business, so I would only have carryon luggage.. that is...

    BGI - PHL - CLT.

I did GND - MIA of a few hours, went to pick up something for my boss, used carryon just incase I missed my return flight and had to overnight..

I rarely check luggage. I work in the airlines so I know how annoying it is to wait on bags, receive damaged bags or have your luggage delayed, or maybe never get it.

    DCA-ORD-ORY
    DCA-PHL-AMS
    DCA-ORD-MXP

I pack lightly- taking only what I need, and usually have a backpack with books, camera, light jacket, etc. I wouldn't recommed it for more than about a week. I'm not sure I could do that now, with the new carry on rules.

ATL-ZRH-MUC was my longest with no checked in baggage. Upon return to Atlanta, my carryon was throughly checked for contraband because the customs official thought there was something wrong with only having a carryon on such a long trip.

    Longest by miles:

DTW-(middle of Hudson Bay)-MSP-PEK-DTW. Had to divert, due to UHF radios going out, to MSP. For a total of 2 days in PEK. It almost took longer to get there.

    Longest by days:

    DTW-FRA-DTW, 7 days.

All with a Samsonite and clean underwear everyday.

    Hmmm. Carry-on only?

    BWI-SAN, BWI-SNA, BWI-LAX, and BWI-ONT
    DCA-ANC, DCA-SEA, DCA-YVR, and DCA-YYC
    IAD-SFO, IAD-SJC, and IAD-SEA-LGB-SEA-IAD

I don't wear either jeans or shorts, so this would have been on occasions when I didn't have to pack either cold-weather attire or a suit.

However, I've done BWI-LAS-BWI and DCA-LAS-DCA several times with no luggage whatsoever.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

    Longest in distance: LGA-ORD-IAH-ORD-LGA...nothing special

Longest in duration: LGA-IND-LGA...nine-day trip, both ways on the dreaded RJ, didn't even put a bag in the gate-check hold (as opposed to a true checked bag)

My longest trip with only carry on bags:

    IAD-LGA-JFK-NRT-HKG-FRA-IAD.

My Round the World trip that took 4 days total.

My furthest distance with only a carryon would be IAD-ORD-LAX-AKL-LAX-IAD

Did CGK-SIN-FCO-LHR and back with just hand luggage on... >20kgs of it...
Had a nice "fight" with the AZ ground service agent about it on the way up and with the AZ F/As on the way back... ! hahahaha!

Can't be bothered anymore... carrying such an amount during transfers was simple... SILLY!

Good thing you're in exile; otherwise you'd put up with:
"Mr. B747-437B, you're only allowed one carry on plus a small personal item. You're going to have to check one of your belongings."

    B747-437B,

I thought it was a law (in the USA, of course)? Last month I flew UA. I checked my suitcase but brought my backpack (w/my laptop in it), my video camera bag, my daughter and her diaper bag. I left my video camera bag in the overhead bin of the aircraft at DEN ... I came back to retrieve it only to find out they called the bomb squad on me since I left a "suspecious article" unattended ... they harassed me for a little bit (why are you traveling? where's the girl's mother?) but wound up putting the camera bag via a machine & letting me go ... a week later I got a letter telling me I violated the carry on policy & cost UA thousands by causing a delay BUT they weren't going to take actio against me!... wish I could upload it!!

    April 23rd- April 25th
    PBI-ATL (DL 764)
    ATL-JFK (DL 763)
    JFK-CDG (AF Concorde)
    CDG-BOS (AF 777)
    BOS-ATL (DL 763?)
    ATL-PBI (DL 764)

A FABULOUS trip to fly on the Concorde...by far the most amazing experience of a lifetime. I flew up to New York in Business Elite, went to Paris on the Concorde, spent the evening in Paris, flew back to Boston on Air France's 777 in L'espace Affaires, and flew back down to Florida in Business Elite. All standby except for a confirmed ticket on the Concorde. It was really nice to travel with just the bare essentials..the clothes on my back, some clean underwear, toothbrush, book, and camera.  Smile

Longest trip was DFW-DTW-BDL on a couple of Northwest DC-9's in 1999. Longest non-stop was DFW-SAN on an American 757 in 2000. Longest since 911 was SAN-SEA on an Alaska MD-80 this year.

DTW - LHR - DTW back in the 90's traveled on a pass with PA, so even had to dress up. Now I rarely if at all carry much on board, all to get through security quicker and check EVERYTHING.

Since graduating college and beginning a career, I have never checked baggage. Most of my trips are for 2 days max, and I find that I can fit a week's worth of clothes into a carry on. Besides, they let you have a carry on and a "personal" item. That item is a large briefcase holding my computer, and anything else if I'm short on space.

So that said, my longest trip with just carry on luggage would have to be:

LGA-BOS-PHL-IAD-FRA-MXP-LHR-BRU-AMS-LHR-EWR over 3 or 4 days back in July 2000.  Sleepy

K.I. Sawyer AFB-Travis AFB-Clark AB is likely the longest. I have checked bags twice since 1974 and both were because my then wife was with me. All I will ever need can be carried on board and anything I bought that could not be was delivered to my home or office the same day I arrived. A perk that I gave up a few weeks back but I can still take a weeks vacation with nothing but a carry on.

MSY-DEN-SEA-DEN-MSY in one day this past April. Flew up there to pay a visit to a former Vanguard coworker...and let's face it, the approach into SEA is stunning. Total travel time was about 14 hours including ground time in DEN and SEA...only had a small bag with me.

    My best however is:

in a span of 12 days in AUG02 with a strolley and a laptop.

MUC-ORD-MUC RT via MAD on IB. We had very short connection times so I was positive that the luggage will not make it on the connecting flight (my assumption proved correct in ORD). I travelled for 7 days with one LH on-board case and a notebook case.
