JetBlue Expending?

Mon Oct 13, 2003 9:57 am

With JetBlue ordering 100 new Embraers and some more A320s I would think that they will be adding new destinations. Does anybody have an idea or even speculation on new cities for JetBlue, if any?

Well, they will be starting up their somewhat vigourous new schedule at BOS early next year. Hopefully we will see JFK-ORD too!

Hey Leneld, I wouldn't be too envious of the (supposed) B6 presence at SEA. I fly in and out of SeaTac all the team, and I have NEVER seen a B6 aircraft. I know they have a flight from SEA to JFK that leaves just after midnight; what other flights do they have? I'm sure it's not too many.

Needless to say, the B6 presence in SEA is very minor and not much to speak of.

There's just one daily round-trip between JFK and SEA. It arrives in SEA about 11:00 pm and leaves at midnight.

B6 only has that one flight out of SEA to JFK. Do you think they will ever be in PHX?

Tucson would be great seeing as I am in school in Tucson. Only if CO would do the EWR-TUS route, life would be good.

I wouldn't be so sure of a lot of those cities... Vail/Eagle from Long Beach??? No, that isn't in their plans I assure you...will they ever serve EGE? Maybe, but it probably isn't on their short list... I wouldn't count on huge amounts of services from other carriers fortress hubs, either, except maybe service to JFK. However, that said, when the EMB 190s come online, anything could happen...who would have predicted such a rapid foray into BOS...

That's nice. Do you know if it is temporary or here to stay. I know they had it Sat only before 9/11 and then it was axed. Too bad when I go home for xmas I already have my ticket out of PHX. I'm flying home at the end of Oct out of TUS thru IAH. The EWR-TUS will be great for me. Does anyone know how the passenger demand is.

Who knows where JetBlue will be going. They have kept pretty much everything they have done under wraps pretty well. I've been teased so much about them coming to STL, I've heard they "had pen in hand" or "are starting service last July" JetBlue has to be the hardest carrier to predict what is coming next. Who could have fathomed BOS-DEN? Adds an element of suspense however Big thumbs up
Cities I think will get service: MCI, ORD, MSP, DTW, STL, PHX, TUS, PDX, AUS, SAT........the list goes on.

The EWR flight for now is a test...unlike the pre 9/11 flight, it will be 7 days a week. They've already told my station manager they want to keep it for good, so hopefully they will. It leaves in time for many connections in EWR including several international...I imagine it will do quite well.

Another one, it wouldbe cheaper, too!

Now, B6 at LGA is possible, but it will be in DIRECT competition with SONG.

Remember all, with the EMB190 hey will be able to serve VIRTUALLY ANY NORTH AMERICAN CITY!

B6 will fold within 3-5 yrs with the massive debt they'll be saddled with. They have to actually pay for the aircraft, and hangers they're building.

I have been told that RDU was high on the list for when the E-190's come in by someone who works in corporate. Of course that would not be able to happen until RDU gets some gate space that they can give out with the work being done to Terminal C!!! Dam'n slow RDU Authority! But hey, they will have all the parking in the world!

E-190 will hold 100.... and i know for a fact that long beach is slot controlled so that post about all those western cities is a little far fetched.. i think another western focus city would be needed to offer western hub service, besides that, expect to see service from the east coast to half the cities listed..

Wow, jetBlue will fold within 3-5 years, thats a new category, most people who said they would fail within two years of startup have kept quiet.... must be tough to pay for things when you're continuing to turn a profit... so many people predicted jetBlue's immediate failure.... Well? what happened?? Maybe someone out there has a plan for success... just my thought..... jetBlue continues to prove the nay-sayers wrong.

i emailed jetblue about six months ago and inquired about their future expansions. while i did not get any specific dates or assurances that these routes would be realized, the respondent did articulate jetblue's interest in the following (and other) cities. namely, i was told jetblue wants to start flights to grand rapids, charlotte, jacksonville, st. louis, milwaukee, houston, austin, and sacramento. there were many others, but i do not remember them, and i can't find the email response.

I have heard rumors of JFK-SAT-LGB, LGB-SAT-JFK, but I can't prove it yet, as it is just that, a rumor, although it did come from a high ranking official at B6.

This is the standard letter JetBlue sends you when you request information about possible expansion (this one's a year old):

Thank you for your e-mail. IndustrialPatent, we have provided you a list of destinations we are considering service within the next 4 years from JFK to: Atlanta; Boston; Canton/Akron; Charleston, SC; Charleston, WV; Charlotte; Chicago; Cincinnati; Cleveland; Columbia, SC; Columbus, OH; Dallas/Fort Worth; Dayton; Flint, MI; Grand Rapids, MI; Greensboro, NC;
Greenville/Spartanburg; Houston; Indianapolis; Jacksonville, FL; Las Vegas, NV; Louisville; Memphis; Milwaukee; Minneapolis/St Paul; Nashville; Norfolk; Phoenix; Pittsburgh; Portland, ME; Portland, OR; Raleigh/Durham; Richmond; Sacramento; and Savannah.

Also, over the next two years, Long Beach will continue its growth with possible non-stop service to Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, Houston, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, and Seattle.!

What's GRR?
And why the surprise in JetBlue's expansion to BOS? Boston was one of the cities B6 wanted from the very beginning but didn't happen for reasons already mentioned here in another thread. They'd been in talks with Massport for at least the past 3 months. BOS-DEN is a very popular route flown only by UA. It's the perfect route for B6. I just wonder why Frontier gave up on that route.

From what I've been told, Frontier had problems with the high operating costs at Logan. Add to that, of course, the numerous delays and gate issues. That being said, I'd expect Frontier to return to Boston within the next few years...it's too big of a market not to see at least some nonstop service...whether it be from Denver or from the other possible "mini hub" down the road. We shall see.

JetBlue should do very well out of there I would think, at least on the Denver segment. I'm wondering, with Song dumping numerous 757's on the Florida routes from BOS, will JetBlue be able to fill several 320's? That sure is a lot of capacity.

Unless there is someone in here with specific knowledge, I'm not convinced about JetBlue's next city. We can all speculate all we want but the truth is nothing is finalized.
With 100 (or more) 100-seat aircraft starting delivery in less than two years time, it is safe to say there will be several new cities added to JetBlue's network. But where? We can only wonder!!
None shall pass!!!!

how could B6 expand at LGB? Aren't they pushed to the max right now? Also, would BIL service to JFK work? There is quite a bit of O/D from BIL to the east coast. The service would have to be with the 190 though. I also think that a BIL-LGB service would work. FAT-JFK service??? Maybe, the airport in Fresno seems a little small for the size of the city/suburbs it serves. I think it could work. I think that if B6 is to expand in SoCal, it will be from another airport, with LGB operating a focus city to the east coast. The slot problems in LGB are huge.

I suspect the next major growth plan involves SJU and assorted destinations in leisure caribbean markets.

They've recently refurbed a dozen or so ex-eastern ticket counters at SJU.

One problem with expanding from San Juan, they wil have to redesign their DirecTV system since it does not work off the coast.

Hello Joseph,

Thank you for your e-mail and your interest in JetBlue.

As a growing airline, JetBlue is continuously evaluating new
cities to serve. From our bases in New York JFK and LA/Long
Beach, JetBlue is considering cities throughout North America
where our low fares and high-quality service will be well
received.

Please stay tuned to our website www.jetblue.com for updates!

Hope all your skies are JetBlue!

For those of you who hear B6 to GRR -and think the sayer is crazy, you are crazy!

There is a market for B6, or others to take Michiganites to Florida - especially during the winter. I'd like B6 to have JFK and Florida routes from here. But not sure. They may start with either Florida routes or JFK connections.

NW and DL to an extent are jumping on this, NW adding year round MCO and TPA direct service from GRR (I don't think it will be a DC-9 all year though) and DL just replaced a CR7 flight to Atlanta with a Boeing 737 starting in January (7th) of 2004.

It's no secret where B6 has wanted to expand to -- they've had it at the tail of their press releases for years... and these are just pie-in-the-sky guesstimates. I highly doubt they'd email sensitive operational plans to any schmuck who contacted them...
